View Full Version : MultiSwitch question
Hi guys newbie here, I'm trying to install a 2nd line to my DVR reciever and a 5th reciever and I found my multiswitch is full. I have two cables going from my dish to my 2x4 multiswitch. I called the local guy who installed (which is a flake) and he said if I buy a 4x8 and hook the four cables off of my 2x4 to to my 4x8 it will work. I tried that but it didn't. He also said if I buy another 2x4 and hook two cables to it it will work. Will this work? Or is my switch 4x8 bad? Or is that not the right way to hook this up? Any help would be great.
Thanks
Mark
Take TWO outputs of your 2x4 and run them to the Sat A inputs (13 V and 18 V) of your 4x8. Leave the Sat B inputs open. You should then be able to use the 8 outputs and have them work.
OR, forget the 2x4 altogether. Run two lines from your dish into the Sat A inputs of the 4x8 and just use it. Again, leave the Sat B inputs open.

So my 4x8 will just have 2 inputs and it should cause all 8 outputs to work? Do I need to run the power to it?
Thanks A bunch!!
OK my 4x8 switch is a Zinwelll SAM-4803 and it does not have "A" or "B" inputs. Just 18v AND 13V two of tem do say 22KHz below them is that the "A" ports?

If you only have one satellite to get you don't need the 22KHZ side of the switch.

I also have the SAM-4803 and I have the two inputs connected to the 18v and 13v inputs that do NOT show the 22v indication. This has worked just fine for me and I've been using it this way for probably a year now, anyway.

Carl:
Just looking at your signature, Do you have all those dishes mounted on your roof?
My neighbors scream and tease us because I have two dishes (1 world direct & AT-9) on the roof. I can only imagine what they would be saying if I had your farm of dishes.

Carl is looking for ET in his spare time.

I bought mine off of Ebay and the green light does not come on, Does that mean its defective? Or does it not work at all? Do I need the power supply to it?
Anyone know if the zinwell requires power?

Just get a Zinwell WB68. Neat switch and future proof.
Can all 8 outputs be used with only 2 inputs on this WB68 switch?

Welcome to the forums from another from SLC! :welcome_s
The WB68 will work fine with just two inputs connected, typically the two without the 22khz tone.
Normally, DIRECTV provides my switches as I add receivers tho it helps to buy the receivers (usually at steep discounts from DIRECTV) :)
I'm up near Ogden, let me know if I can help.
Cheers,
Tom

Well.....
I do have three dishes up (slimline, 3-LNB and round), plus an OTA antenna, plus a ham radio antenna, all on the house. And I have a 30 foot tower in the back yard with more radio stuff on it.
But the only reason my user name is Carl6 is because Carl was already being used, as was Carl2, so I just jumped a few and tried Carl6 and it worked. In real life, I'm only Carl the 3rd (really).
