SPIM, SPIT, SPLOG, SPING!The End User: Unlocking the mysteries of Webspeak

Maybe it's because the Internet is a social haunt of the young, or maybe it's because
network technology is a science that requires specific terminology, but the Web has
always had a jargon all its own.
Even when you've figured out that a podcast is nothing more than a miniature radio
show, it is still too easy for you to feel like a foreigner in a conversation about the
Internet if you are over the age of 20.
Here is a handful of current terms that may help you keep up after you've learned that
a blog is just shorthand for "Web log" and not a bit of moldy eggnog that has spilled
on the floor (or the gagging sound that you make when you see such a spill).
SPIM, SPIT, SPLOG, SPING: Spam, the word derived from a "Monty Python" skit
that has come to mean any unwanted e-mail, has generated its own offspring, and
