Don't think I've ever tried this on the HR20, but I thought you could record the XM channels? I know you can with the R15, I've tried that.
My main computer is dead at the moment, and the temp I'm using doesn't have any of my music on it, I was hoping I could record a few songs I really like keep them on the DVR to listen to.

The HR20 has never been able to record XM channels, even though the R15 can.

Figures. Wait, don't tell me the R15 actually has 1 advantage over the HR20? lol At least I know it's not MY receiver. Thanks!!

This must have been patched somewhere along the line, because I could have sworn I recorded some holiday music last season to replay. Is it possible the older ('06) versions of software supported this (officially or unofficially ;) )?

Officially and unofficially, the HR20 could never record the XM channels.

It's probably more to do with XM wanting you to buy a subscription to use one of their recorders.

No, it's pretty much the RIAA. They're already going after XM for marketing their own recorders, claiming their agreements with XM only allow streaming, not recording.

No, it's pretty much the RIAA.
If you can provide some proof to back that up, aside from the fact that the RIAA doesn't like XM's recorders, I'd like to see it. Otherwise, you're making an assumption just like I am.

The RIAA is Evil-with-a-Capital-E. They eat small children. And puppies. They wipe their noses with the Constitution, due process and CD-Rs of legally-copied MP3s. They were the force behind New Coke. In fact, they were the force behind the midichlorians and the Force. They paid Buckner to misplay the ball in the '86 World Series. The RIAA was behind disco.

Need I say more?

Of course, the HD DirecTiVo (HR10-250) can't do it either.
