View Full Version : Anyone's free Showtime on yet?
I got the postcard from Dish last week saying I get free Showtime from
October 1 until January 10 for being such a loyal customer. I just came in
from work and noticed my Showtime channels weren't activated yet, are
anyone's on yet that got this same card in the mail?

I bet its on by 5pm tonight. They always seem to make channel changes and add new channels at around 5pm eastern.

How long have you been a loyal customer for?
I have the Everything pack - what do I get?
Of course - they are probably just giving you Showtime in the hope that you'll decide to keep keep it.
When I originally signed up (around 1 1/2 years ago), I took the everything pack assuming I'd dump some of the premiums after the 3 month free premium expired - still haven't gotten around to the dumping part.
The 'free trial' promotions are no accident !!!

I highly doubt I will keep Showtime once the preview is over. Chris Issak and the occasional movie are the only things I bother watching on Showtime when they have a free preview weekend. Maybe I'll check out their other new shows during this preview and see if anything else interests me. I've been with Dish since December '99 by the way.

After the "free" preview contact them and cancel and kick and scream if they try to charge you $5 to drop it because they will. Been there, done that.
This is a no-strings attached free preview though. On January 10, the channels will disappear. This is more of a "thank you" from Dish than a free preview.

I don't have it and I have been with Dish longer (slightly). As for the $5.000 two months for $5.00 is not all that bad.
You know, Dish legally couldn't charge the $5 downgrade fee even if they wanted to. I never SUBCRIBED to Showtime nor did I ask for this preview, Dish is just giving me something because they want to. I have no intentions of calling them when this preview is up, if the channels are still there January 11, then that's their problem. I will not pay Dish a dime for any of this.

Don't be surprised if Dish tries charging you for a downgrade fee. They seem to have a reputation of ripping some people off (ask Scott about the time they made him pay for PPV's that he never ordered).

That would really be ironic if they tried to rip one of their customers off right after they sent them a postcard telling them how "special and appreciated" they were for being "such a loyal customer". Surely they wouldn't try that..

I was lucky I was able to fight and have the charges removed from my account. :)
I am a loyal subscriber with the Everything pack... I guess this means my prize is I pay for Showtime for the next 3 months.
I really hate these promotions. They should have something that is fair to all their customers.

I have been with Dish since their 2nd month of operation, I haven't heard of any offer of this type? Geez and I am an auto pay too!
I called Dish just now and they say they are aware of the problem and they apologized. The lady I spoke to said everything will be fixed in the morning at the latest. Nothing really on Showtime tonight worth watching anyway, not that there ever is to begin with!
I recieved the postcard yesterday Oct 1 and the channels were turned on at 10 pm. Thanks E*
I got the postcard too. I was on the phone last night with Dish on another topic, and asked about when Showtime would be turned on. Got the same response as stated above, that they are aware of it, and it will be fixed soon. Haven't checked yet this morning, but thank you Dish in advance for this. I hope Showtime-HD is included.
I guess they only appreciate some of their loyal customers. I've been with dish since early 97. I haven't recieved a postcard yet. Guess I'll check for the channels tonight
I don't know what Dish's problem is. My 508 in the living room is recieving none of the Showtime package, the 301 in the basement is getting all of the channels, and the 3900 in our bedroom is getting all the channels except TMC East and TMCX East. What is up with this? I call Dish and the lady has me doing switch checks and looking at my PPV purchase history but none of these things work. So she tells me it will be "around a week"(what the hell?) before I get the TMC channels on the 3900 and she has put me on some type of list so I can get the channels on my 508? She said that should be fixed in less than a week as well. How damn complicated is it to activate 10 channels? If I ordered Showtime, it would be activated immediately. This is absolutely ridiculous. I guess I shouldn't complain since it is free, but I am amazed at how unorganized Dish is with this matter. Is anyone else having these problems?

They are looking for new subs for Showtime. If I were any of you I would call on January 10 to tell them I don't want it. Otherwise you risk fighting with them over a monthly charge. Just my advice. Take it for what it is worth----not much.
Still no free Showtime (as of last night) on either of my receivers.
It really wouldn't bother me so much if I hadn't got the postcard, . . . now I expect it. :):
Hope Sho-HD is included.

Once ur free trial is over, there should be no reason to have to call because they gave it to you as a trial :) and should be taken off without your call. If they start charging you after your trial is over, that is considered ILLEGAL PRACTICES!
But anyway, enjoy your ShoTime channels. I think they should change the name to ShoTime, and leave the W out. Wasn't it named shotime b4  ?

Perhaps Gemini. But I just think that one phone call is easier than fighting it out. That's me. We all look at it differently I suppose.
No postcard or free channels here.
Guess you have to be a new loyal customer :(

Being a cantankerous sort I called DISH and asked why they are offering thsi to some subs and not others. They fixed my wagon. I was put on hold. I was transfered three times. I heard lots of great Muzak. But I never did get anything that approached being an answer.
Thanks for letting me share.

I have subscribed for four years and have referred many people to Dish Network but I didn't get the card either. Sooooo I called Dish last night to find out what the requirements were to get Showtime for free. I was told that it was kind of random. I then asked if I could be put on the list. After being put on hold for 5-10 minutes the guy comes back and says that I will have it turned on by next Wednesday. (One week) I was on the phone for probably 20 minutes and transferred 2 or 3 times but they gave it to me.
THe real reason that I want it is to see Showtime HD. If that isn't included then I really don't care about it.

About 3 years ago when I enabled distant nets for locals they offered me "free" something for 3 months and they NEVER mentioned the $5 cancellation fee nor did they bother to tell me I had to call to cancel it or I would be charged for the package.
When my time was up and I got billed, I called to cancel and they were going to charge me for the month I had not yet watched and $5 to downgrade. After going back and forth with them over the fact that they never informed me of the above mess, they finally conceded and cancelled with no charges. This is a shady practice and they should be required to document on the computer that they have informed you of the $5 downgrade fee and the auto-billing after 90 days.
In this case, if it is a "free" 90 day preview then shut off, I wish they would have sent it to me. Hell, I've been with them since Feb 97, how much more loyal (or stupid) can a customer be?
I just got off the phone with Dish and was told that they are supposedly sending out post cards to groups of people at a time and then will send out more later. I was told that I just need to be patient that I will get a postcard.
Anybody else heard this response yet?

I didn't receive a free showtime insert but I did get a free ppv movie one. Also you guys prompted me to check my channels just to see if I got the showtime and nothing but they did add the starz and encore channels. Eight in all. Anyone else notice this?
Didn't get anything in my last bill about it.
This weekend and next weekend are free previews of Starz and Encore for everyone!

I called up and in 12 minutes was able to get the offer by talking to CSR with id: 9HR. I was also told that the folks were randomly selected but he offered to contact an executive to get permission to add my account to the offer. He succeeded and told me that in the future they would not make this adjustment for me since the offer is chosen at random but that since I had been a customer since 1997 they would go ahead and apply it to me this time only. He thought it was likely that in the future I would be randomly selected for other offers due to the long standing account I have and it being in good standing.
