We have an R10 that reboots itself periodically and my wife is almost at the end of her patience with it. It is a refurb unit that we've had for about 6 months...I'm guessing that's why it's a refurb unit to begin with. If I call to get a replacement, can we get another R10(which I'd prefer) or are they replacing these with something else now?

Thanks.

If you call them, you'll get an R15 which is not a Tivo. It's had its share of issues, read for yourself in the R15 forum. I don't own one so I'm not a good one to ask. If you're looking for another DirecTivo, eBay or other sites like that, or weaknees.com might be good choices.

We already have one R15. Although it's been fairly stable(knock on wood), I still like the R10. I'll check online and see what I can find.

Thanks for the info.

Strange, shortly after DirecTiVo's were discontinued, prices shot up for both R10 and HR10, on both eBay and Weaknees. The price is still 1199.00 for a 30hr HR10 at weakknees! but the price on the R10's has dropped like a stone? HR10's are now about 500.00 on eBay. I wonder why this one is staying so high and the R10 is not?
at any rate. I bought a new in box leftover R10 at CompUSA used it about 4 months before we got an HR20 for the house, paid 175.00 for it. We finally got HDTV and the HR20, so it's hardly used.
Meanwhile, we bought a NIB HR10250 for our RV on eBay for 375, just before the price went crazy.
At any rate the R10 is all together in a box if someone would like to make me an offer on it. We thought we'd at least get what we paid for it, they are 199.00 at weakknees, but I don't think they are R10's............
I'll even include shipping as I get an Airline employee discount at FedEx

Buy a new hard drive and save yourself a LOT of headaches with the R15 (you think you wife is upset now, wait until you have an R15, you may end up divorced) . This is a good time to upgrade the hard drive to a larger one if you like. Go to dvrupgrade.com or weaknees.com and buy a big hard drive and replace the existing one. The new drive will come with detailed installation instructions, so if you can work a torx wrench you can replace a hard drive.
