I was excited to see that I would now be able to sort the list by alpha, that is until I tried it. Sure, it sorts the folders by alpha, but it sorts the episodes by alpha too. That means you open the folder, and the episodes are not in order of airing.
Stupid much!

This should be in the CE forum.

Why?
The sorting feature is not new to 0x13b/d
The MyPlaylist -> List By has been there since the initial release.
Just the option to make it stick, is new to the CE.

I put it there, it got moved. I never actually used the sort feature since it didn't stick before. I thought, why take more time to sort than to just browse? Now that I have tried it, I switched back to the default.

Sorry, I never knew there even was a sorting feature before.
I just tried the sort option tonight. I too had ignored this feature since it wasn't "sticky" on the original SW releases. Now that I started playing with it, I immediately went back to the traditional sort by date.
I love the fact that the shows can be sorted by alpha, but not the show titles. That's just silly. What is a logical use-case for this? Seriously?

Wow...I just switched it to alpha tonight but didn't look inside the folders...now I'll have to change it back...that is pretty silly indeed...

While I can understand for some series wanting to "sort by name" for the episode list...
Take CSI for example:
On my top level: I want to sort by "series" (So CSI shows up on top).
But inside that list, I wouldn't want it by "episode" name... as I want to play them back in chronological story line order...
Some other series, such as "Good Eats" or even "Planet Earth"... (24 would be an exception)... it could make sense... but for most primetime series shows, it wouldn't make much sense.
So "maybe" they need to introduce another List By option: Sort Alpha (Including Folders)

Getting mixed messages here. OP says that it sorts everything by alpha if that's what you select as a sorting option. Earl, you seem to be saying the opposite. Since I am not in front of my HR-20, and therefore have no way to check for myself, can I get some clarity on the actual sorting method? As I see it, it should sort the series by alpha and the shows by chrono. Is this the case, or is it as the OP states, all by alpha?

When 6.3 brought folders and sort options to the HR-10s, I can't recall one post complaining there was no alpha sort inside folders. It's just plain silly (or lazy) that the engineers made it ubiquitous. (How's that for a $5 word?) :)

You can sort programs by alpha, but multiple episodes of the particular program can't be sorted by date.........rather they are sorted by alpha as well.....not my preference........

Well then yes... that would be a problem. (IMHO as well).

Earl, you are slipping, it took you at least 30 seconds to respond........
