Its stuck on "Step 1 of 2: Checking satellite settings... this will take take a few minutes."

It started last night when my picture went out. I still had the guide and menu but no picture and sound so I reset. I unplugged it overnight and have tried all day but nothings changed.

I really don't have three hours to spend on the phone with DirecTV.

If anyone has any solutions/ideas, I appreciate it.

There was another member with this today.
They had to "bite the bullet" and reformat the disk. This fixed it, but lost all of their recording etc.
On the front panel: press the record button & the down arrow at the same time. This will wipe the drive.
If you do this, I would then go into the setup guide and do a "reset everything" to completely "flush out" the receiver, since you've got nothing else to lose [after the reformat] and everything to gain for the long run.
BTW: welcome to the forum.

Before you reformat, try the following -

Switch the satellite 1 and 2 cables
Remove the B-Band converters (the little dongles between the cable and the HR20)
If possible, move the HR20 to another location in the house and try it there

If you do get it to work at that point, you might have a bad line. Sometimes just unplugging the cables and swapping them can do it.

You will probably need the B-Band converters by the summer so if you get it to work, try putting them back on and see if it works. If it works without them and not with them, get DirecTV to send you new ones.

I had this happen to one of my boxes. Mine stopped at that exact spot that yours is and it froze. It would not format either. I had to get a "new" refurbished box to replace my brick.
