To be honest i'm not sure why people put D*, E* makes sense as it's Echostar but with DTV it's not Direcstar. DTV is their public symbol. Just my thoughts though :)

DTV is also used, but in general... the forum culture is trying to stop that one, because of confusion with Digital TV

I had always used Directv until I got on the Forum. Most posts I have seen just use D to refer to Directv and I like that. It is much quicker :)
