SOOOO much ------(those are negatives) about this magnificent machine!
I live in the Charlotte NC area and we went OTA HD locals last May/June(2006).
Called DirecTV and asked where my local HD were hiding. They told me about MEG4, etc.
I logged onto the DirecTV Technical forum and this gave me my answers (June 26, 2006).
After that I searched and found the best information on the HR20-700. This was DBSTalk forum. ( yes, I am now a member).
I visited and observed, through all the concerns, and waited until OTA was enabled. Waiting and reading, I decided to order my HR20-700 ( waited for right price also).
On 1/31/2007 I spoked to a retention person ( name with-held). My conversation was a back and forth 3 olr 4 times, all polite from both of us. What I received was my HDDVR for $ 100 with an immediate $100 credit to my account (it did happen instantly, per web site check). I also got 4 months HD free and $10 off my bill for 1 year. ( I believe I could have gotten more, but I was more than happy).
Install scheduled for 2/16/2007, which I cancelled due to a death in my family. I called to reschedule and got a 4/4/07 date. Called D* and got 3/6/07 install.
On 3/6/07 installed from MASTEC arrived early (after asking if he could). Install went 120% perfect, except that my OTA antenna did not work. I okayed the OTA issue with the installer and told him he could leave.
My OTA is an MS-2000 winegard I purchaded from D*. I called D* 3/14/07 and was promised an 3/17 install of new OTA antenna - no charge. The same installer came out and installed ( with some doubts) the new antenna. When he connected it, he said "let's go and check it" I said I did and it works fine.
The installers name is Tim Ramirez ( hope I spelled it correctly). Not only did he do a terrific install, he called me twice to ask about my OTA issue, which I told him I would resolve with D*.
I did say MASTEC, and their supervisor name of Jack spoke to me prior to my install and assured me all would go well. Thanks Jack and Tim!!( mention Mastec because of - comments.
I have one HDTV with HR20-700 and 3 other non dvr or HDTVs. My OTA locals are as good as they were before the install and I am satisfied.
I hope I don't fill up your website, but this was important to me and to all others reluctant to buy an HRDVR from DirecTV.
