View Full Version : HR20 - HDMI + SVideo/Composite=no boot?

For several months now I've been running both the component (and digital audio) out to my Onkyo, which feeds an Infocus In78 projector, and an svideo/analog audio out to an RF Modulator that feeds the house coax, so we need just 1 HR20 in the house. It's worked just fine. (this abillity was the sole reason I upgraded from an HR10)

Last weekend I finally got off my lazy but and ran an HDMI cable from the Onkyo to the Projector, hooked the HR20 to the Onkyo with HDMI (it does HDMI switching) and thought I'd end up with some slight video improvement. Sure enough, the HDMI run to the PJ looks better, even if I feed component to the Onkyo. (it also does a/d converting)

But when I rebooted the HR20, it hung on step 1. I let it sit there for more than an hour before doing a red button reset, which ended in the same result. 3 more tries, all the same thing. But as soon as I disconnected the HDMI cable from the back of it, it rebooted just fine. Thinking it might be an issue with the Onyo, I plugged the PJ HDMI cable directly into the HR20, same hang on step 1. So I then unplugged the s-video and l/r audio lines, rebooted, and it booted just fine.

Bottom line: It can do 1080i/720p over component at the same time as 480i on composite/svideo, and can feed both digital and analog audio at the same time. But it won't boot with digital and analog video outs connected. Is this a known issue? Any work arounds?

I'm using the latest public firmware, I think it's 0x134.

You are right, I was looking at the wrong line. It is 0x134.

I run HDMI to my tv and use the svid and vid connectors to slingbox and rf modulator and it works fine.. Might just be a compatabiliy issue.. hopefully they will get it fixed for you soon..

It is posible that the network can be causing this issue. The 0134 version had some fixes in it for some reported network problems.

Do you have the network connectied?
If so, try unplugging it and boot the system. If it works then please report the issue and all the the devices hooked to the network. In particular the devices using UPnP.

It is networked, I'll give that a shot when I get home.

You don't by chance have an Xbox 360 do you? It's been known to cause some issues (got to see one first hand) :)

Well I did (sold it about 3 weeks ago) But again, this problem only occurs when I have the HDMI and SVideo out plugged in. It was working fine networked w/compnent and svideo.

I do know the media center extender stuff is still loading on the host PC, which is also the Twonky server feeding the HR20. So if removing the ethernet line fixes it I'll look into that as well.
