Hi, I live in San Diego but want to order Dish Network and get San Francisco channels for sports purposes. How easy is this to do? Can I buy the service and use a different address, or do I need to buy it with my current address first, then switch it. And if so, how soon should I do this?

Curious... but when asking how best to lie, does one actually expect honest replies?

Things to do:

* Search these forums for "moving".

* Check the spot-beam maps to see whether the SF locals can be seen from SD.

* Consider buying the appropriate out-of-market sports packages to watch the games that you want. It's much better karma than lying.

All of the special install deals that I have seen include installation ... which means an installer is going to have to find the place where you want your dish installed and go there for the install. You will get whatever equipment is needed for that location.

If you later change your service address you are basically on your own for anything beyond telephone support (unless you have a local installer who you are willing to pay). If you get a dual tuner receiver you will have to pay $5 more per month for each one not connected to a phone line. If you are getting several receivers expect a call from the audit team ... checking to make sure all of those receivers are in the same home (since there won't be a phone line proving that proof).

At the moment E* isn't auditing every receiver to see if it is in the place the customer says it is. Perhaps some day they will. Welcome to the dark side!

I would rather do this, but Dish Network doesn't offer the NFL package. I could get DirecTV, but Dish has more HD channels plus it's cheaper

* Check the spot-beam maps to see whether the SF locals can be seen from SD.The coverage of all three spots serving San Francisco end before they reach San Diego. So not much of a chance of seeing locals via satellite (SD or HD) --- you will have to rely on OTA reception for anything that isn't on the RSN.

Isn't San Fran an "AAD Distant Network City?"

FYI they don't care what the phone number is as long as all your boxes dial out from the same number.

With all the number porting and Voice over IP stuff they cant rely on caller ID for location.
I "Moved" to Atlanta almost a year ago through Dish Mover and a friend that's a dealer.
I changed my number of record to my cell phone number then ordered the dish mover.
But as stated above if your out of the spot beam coverage your SOL on locals.

PS I have a second home with a Legit address in Atlanta so I'm golden on the move.

I'm still within the spot beam coverage plus Atlanta HD is conus on 129. I get Atlanta SD locals plus OTA locals from the market I'm actually in.

I thought what they cared about was the calling # matches the number they have in the system for your dwelling.
