Channel 797 at the Food City 500 at Bristol.
Great news. He won the online voting by fans and has agreed to be on NASCAR HotPass this week.
Here is the list of drivers
795 Elliott Sadler
796 Kevin Harvick
797 Jeff Gordon
798 Kurt Busch
799 Dale Earnhardt Jr
HotPass has had 3 of the first 4 winners of the NASCAR season so far. My 8 year old will be glued to 797 this week. :D

This is great news ... hopefully now he will agree to be on a ton - then they can split channel 799 between Junior and Jeff.
Thanks Satelliteracer for the info.
Will he carry an in-car?

No in car camera for him this week is my understanding as of today. As has been stated here and elsewhere, he prefers not to have an in-car camera and does so only for a few races a year. Prefers the site lines, etc. Each driver obviously has their own preferences.
Bristol is such a trading paint kind of race and so difficult to pass, I can understand his desire.
We're just thrilled he's on board this week....fantastic lineup. Maybe we can get win number 4 out of 5 of the season with NASCAR HotPass drivers.

Satelliteracer - thanks for the info. I can totally understand the issue w/ the in-car. I assume he will carry the roof and bumper cam - which is great. The drivers may not be looking forward to this race but I sure am. So many unknows with the COT and now JG is on HotPass - sweet! I am pumped and ready for Bristol!

I tweaked the title of the thread.... I want to try this for the special packages going forward:
Package - Title
That way it is easy to identify and see what kind of "traffic" (no pun intended) we are getting on the discussion for the special sports packages.

All I can say is that I really, really, really hope that this comes off and that perhaps it'll shut-up the Gordon fans for a few weeks.
==
I guess I'd add that were I a Jeff Gordon fan, the other race(s) that I'd like to see him on Hotpass for would be the road races. He normally seems to do pretty well on them so it might showcase his talents a bit.
==
Finally, regardless of being a fan or hater of Gordon, you almost hope that he does win this weekend, with him on Hotpass, so that he'll be more friendly about working with Hotpass in the future 'cause of superstition. :p

Although not a Gordon fan at all.....it is better than having Dale Jarrett again just to watch him go lap upon lap down......nice view from the rear of the field all day though.....:D

I'll 'shut up' until the next week. Will that suffice?

Satelliteracer,
I don't see where the DirecTV website has voting for the next race...
Will they continue to have the voting there, or...?
Thanks!

He didn't have a good year last year either and was driving something else then too.

Roughly every 4 races we will have voting....it's not an every race situation. I am waiting to hear when the voting window is for the next one, but I would imagine it will open up around April 22nd. Will confirm for you.

Satelliteracer & jkimrey - Eric Shanks told me Richmond which falls on 5/5. He said the voting was every 5 races or so.

Yeah, I think Richmond is the next race where the 5th driver will appear, but I think the online voting window will start on the 22nd and run through 29th or 30th. Not sure, will circle back as that is being hashed out right now. It may start a touch earlier than the 22nd. Will let you know.
I'm a fan of Jeff's, but not a fan of Hot Pass. So D doesn't get any more of my money for this :)

Maybe we can convince you otherwise down the road. ;)
By the way, voting will start April 22nd and end midnight April 28th for that Richmond race.

Hey Satelliteracer,
Are the roof and bumper cams a go for the #24 at Bristol?

Not me. At least not until DTV keeps the driver audio on 100% - not intermixed with the commercials like last week. We'll just listen to the audio from NASCAR.

Always a party pooper :D Wish we could make it commercial free, but the agreement with the networks does not allow for that.

I am new to the forum. I am a JG fan and when I ordered the hotpass from DirecTV I was very disappointed to see that the 24 wasn't on there as a regular. Considering that he is leading the points now is there a contractual reason he isn't on there as often as JR?
I find it odd that DTV continues to choose drivers that don't have a large fan base.
Can somebody help me with this and let me know if there are plans for DTV to change this going forward?
Thanks,
Chad

We choose drivers for a number of different reasons, as does NASCAR. We've had NASCAR's most popular driver four years running (#8) on every race but one.
This week we have the #2 driver in the points, Jeff Burton and last week we had Gordon. The Busch boys have been on, Jimmie Johnson, Harvick, Kenseth, Tony Stewart, etc.
It's a balancing act of keeping the various NASCAR teams happy and also making great drivers available for the fans to watch.
In the 5 races so far, we've had 3 winners and in the other two races we had the 3rd place finisher.
Keep in mind that the drivers and their teams have to agree to be on HotPass. It's not like we can just say "x driver" will be on this week, it's a mutual agreement. We were tickled Jeff was on last week as he EASILY won our fan driver voters poll. We look forward to him being on in the future as well.
Incidentally, this week's drivers are
Earnhardt Jr
Blaney
Hamlin
Kenseth
Burton

Initially, I believe, Jeff Gordan did not want to participate in Hotpass. The online vote apparently changed his mind.

Thanks for the response. Guess I just don't understand why you wouldn't try to get Gordon on every week like Jr. is. I could count the number of Blaney fans out there on one hand.
I didn't realize that the teams had to allow the use, I figured that any TV deal was something Nascar decided.
Anyway, thanks for the response and insight. I really love the Hotpass, when Gordon is on.
