Looks like Colorado Springs is next on the LIL Front

I received two reports in the last two days about new channels popping up. Looks like the Colorado Springs stations are coming to channels 9065-9071 on the Dish line-up eventually.

Looks like there are only 4 unique channels. The big 4 are identified, however, the PBS channel is a full time repeater of the Denver PBS channel so they may do exactly what they did in North Carolina and just mirror the channel. And interestingly enough, Colorado Springs doesn't appear to have a WB affiliate, but channel 9069 (the WB slot) looks like it is lit up with KWGN Denver.

Can they provide channels from other DMAs? Isn that not allowed.

KWGN being a superstation may be a contributing factor. Also keep in mind that there is no local WB affiliate and it may be the "normal " thing in that area.

Why does Dish deliver the DENVER PBS when Colorado Springs has TWO PBS affiliates of their own? They have KBDI and KRMA.

KBDI & KRMA are DENVER PBS not colorado springs.

Hey Ogre,

The only full power PBS station I see in Colorado Springs is KTSC channel 8 and that is a full-time repeater of Rocky Mountain Public Broadcasting. This is for all inents and purposes channel 6 KMRA Denver.

My guess is that Colorado markets is the same way as they do North Carolina when WUNC Chapel Hill (Raleigh DMA) is remapped and available to Greenville/Spartanburg/Asheville and Charlotte markets in liue of the local full power repeaters.

To be perfectly blunt, D* or E* could offer WUNC to EVERY subscriber in NC, the entire network (11 or so full power) shows the exact same thing , with the only difference being the station ID messages.

Ah Scooper, you fail to see the big picture. If D* or E* were to offer WUNC to all NC Subs then tecnically they are providing WUNJ-Wilmington and WUNK-Greenville/New Bern to those markets. Since 1 "local" station is "carried" then the providers would have to carry those markets.

Oh - I understand that point - which is why WUNC ISN'T offered to the other NC DMA's AT THIS TIME. If these other DMA's eventually are offered, THEN there would be no problem.

What happens to Denver stations that currently have waivers? or will E* automatically switch everyone over to C Springs net?? FOX does not currently require a waiver in Manitou, but suspect that will change.

This question is asked every time a new local is announced or rumored.

The availability of locals and the qualifications for distant channels have nothing to do with each other (except the national PBSx channel 249). If and when Dish offers Colorado Springs, you can get the new locals or not and keep the current channels you have (Except PBS 249 at the request of PBS)

And if I don't add or switch to C Springs, will 249 PBS stay or go? Tony, I suspect that the distant qual for Manitou addresses will all go "X" after C Springs comes up. One of the local stations said will go live between Oct 9 and Oct 23.

If you are in a white area, the availability of the big four distant channels WILL NOT be affected when the CS stations become available. However if you have the distant channels because the CS locals gave you waivers, they MAY rescind the waivers and then you would lose the distant networks the local station that no longer grants you a waiver for.

PBS is a different animal. The deal that PBS has with its member stations (not affiliates...PBS is not technically a network...yeah, right...) is if a local PBS is AVAILABLE to the area via DBS, the company may no longer sell the national channel (249) in that area. So if Dish holds up their end of the bargain, within a reasonable period of the launch of CS locals you WILL lose PBS (249) whether you get the CS locals or not.

Again, the launch of local channels in an area has ZERO bearing on whether you qualify for the big four distant networks. These are two separate and individual things in the SHVIA.
