I decided to upgrade my directivo r10 to the hr20. I just needed to know what to expect as far as the work order and installation requirements. I will have the HR20 and be moving my current r10 to another room. I also have a standard receiver in a third room.

2 of my three rooms have 1 coax running to the receiver. The other room with the current r10 has 2 coax. Now one of the cables in this room was installed when they installed the r10 (around year and a half ago) it has compression fittings. But the other cable is 15 yrs old, it was an existing cable and was not replaced.

The room that currently has a standard receiver and will be replaced with my r10 dvr needs another cable run.

Is 4 cables the max amount that is included with installation? I was thinking replacing my 15yr old cable with 2 more (one for tuner and the other for ota) and then adding another cable to the new r10's location. So a total 3 new cables, does that sound about right?

Also, I guess I would need the wb68 multiswitch correct? Anything else I should expect? Sorry for the long post but want to make sure my HD install goes smooth. THANKS!

You do need the WB68 multi-switch.

If the old cable is working, they don't need to replace it. They may choose to run two cables as part of the R10 install, but that's kind of up to the discretion of the installer.

The old cable works but the standard PQ on that tuner is alot worse then on the other cable. I guess my question is, can I ask them to replace that line as part of the standard install.

In the digital domain, it either works or it doesn't. If your picture quality is diminished (other than obvious dropouts), it is likely the fault of the receiver, the television or the connection between them.

In the interim, you might want to test the basic receiver in place of the R10 (and the television on the R10) and see if performance improves. I'm betting that you'll find that the old cable isn't the problem.

I agree with this, cable quality would only effect drop outs during rain fade events, not picture quality.

How is that reciever hooked up to the TV? If you hook up a VCR the same way do you get the same results?

It could be that you are using bad cables to the tv, or that the tv is bad. Or you are using RF cables to connect the reciever to the tv (are you watching DirecTV on Channel 3?)

You really need to use composite over RF and S-Video over composite, if your tv and reciever have those options.
