Okay, still getting to the bottom of everything I can do with this unit and I'm still amazed at just how good it is seeing how far it had to come. I just pray the R15's benefit from all this work at some point.

Anyway, keep in mind that my main DVR's have been TiVo's. I have two R15's but one is in my son's room and one is in our bedroom where I rarely record anything.

1) Is there a way to jump ahead to the various tick marks like I could with the TiVo? It was never intuitive there but you could do it if you remembered how.

2) How does this Advance feature work? I see people talking about 30 second slip but I've yet to figure out how to use this to emulate something resembling a reliable commercial skip. I've tried hitting that button 5 times and it lands a commercial short. Hit it 6 times and it lands 20 seconds or so into the show.

3) Is the fastest way to add a manual recording to go to Settings and Manual? Why isn't Manual an option when I have a show highlighted in the guide?

4) Is the Ethernet connection there only for the same duties the phone line handled or can I do any sort of streaming of content from my PC, etc?

5) When in Manual recording mode is there no fast way to get a channel up? I try to enter a channel number to jump to it but it just pays attention to the first number is some strange attempt to help. In fact, I hadn't even realized we had channels in the 2000 range until I tripped over it with this "feature". If I know I want to record Comedy Central and it's on 249, must I really page from 200 to 249 and that's my only recourse?

6) What the heck is a Showcase? Is this content that just hasn't shown up yet, like Fall previews and such that I never watched on my TiVo either?

I think that will hold me for now. Thanks!

You need to do some reading. Jump to the forum "HR20 Information Resources" and there are several PDF files built by long time members describing details of everything you ask.

In case you're not into reading or some of your q's were not answered there:

1. Jump to tick: press and hold FF button for about 3 sec, let go, jumps to next tick

2. 30 sec "slip": press the button just above the FF button for 30 sec skip ahead. Press multiple times to "stack them up". I use about 6 presses to go by a set of commercials.

3. Manual record: you have the only way to do it. Can't be done from guide.

4. Ethernet: it's only there for playing mp3's and viewing jpegs, no streaming video (yet). It may be used differently in the future (video on demand, etc.)

5. Manual Recording Channel Selection: You got it...it is a little screwy

6. Showcase: not in use by D* yet...it will be "pushed" content from D*
