Last update was in 1999 I believe. Its a great box (the more info button in the banner will give you information such as Directors and score composers). Since it has a Coaxial out to TV output I can use it to hook it up to my plasma's PIP. My T-160 feels very neglected.

It's in queue right behind the RCA DCT100 upgrade.

Just checked and actually the last update for this box was June 2, 2004 to version 1.0.14. And you are ocrrect, this is a very reliable, well-built box.

I still have mine and it's a great HD box. Get this, the guide is fast. :)

I could kick Sony for leaving PIP off their new LCD TVs... argh. Used to use my Samsung for my second HD box with the HR20. Now it's living in the gameroom instead.

Plus, the Biorhythm feature in the menu is kind of fun.

Wow, I had forgotten about that. Will have to check it this morning! I also like the additional program information the box shows in the more info screen. Love seeing who a director of a movie is by hitting more info. Couldn't this be done with the HR20?

Also I have found the O.T.A. tuner on this box is the best I have ever owned. I use it now strictly for O.T.A. not as a Direct box.

It was great being able to the NCAA tourney (Go Gators!) and the Ranger/Islander games at one time this weekend using the PIP on my plasma. I wonder why most of the set top boxes don't have coaxial outputs as I believe most of the newer TVs still use coaxial inputs for the PIP feature. Guess I shouldn't complain as it works great and I will keep that box active as long as it keeps working.

Mine is still going strong too. Great OTA reception and still using it for D* on the bedroom TV. I had a tough time deciding which box to trade in when I picked up my HR20 and because my Hughes E86 stopped getting analog stations, the T-160 won out. (Still have a station that hasen't gone digital.)

My only complaint is that the clock loses time unless it's hooked up to a phone line which screws up the guide. Unplugging it fixes it for a few weeks.

"I wonder why most of the set top boxes don't have coaxial outputs"

ever wonder why the original DVD players didn't?

Quality and reputation.

If they had a (terrible quality standard def) coaxial output, many customers installing it themselves would use THAT to hook it up tot heir $9,000 plasmas, esp. if upgrading their old system.

They'd see horrible quality, not at all high def, and think directv HD is worthless.

So...why include a feature (that costs to inlcude) that may make opinion of your service go down?

remember...people who post here are tech-savvy enough to use a computer...the average TV watcher isn't going to be posting here, and therefore not be as TV savvy as we are (by far).

And sadly, few of those who are NOT tech-savvy will ever crack open an installation guide.
