Was suppose to be here on 03/26, at least they called and told me they didn't have
any HR20 to install. Said they will try again on 03/28. no big deal but you think the installers would have the hardware.

Guess they're still in short supply, or your installer just didn't plan ahead very well. Let us know how Wednesday's appointment goes.

My initial install was last Wednesday, but box turned out to be defective. The replacement box from D* showed up today. I will install myself when I get home from work. I am confident I can do this myself w/o install tech.

But if anyone has any last minute advice, please share. :D

Cheers,
John

It's very easy, I've done it myself when getting a box replaced due to defect. Will just need to call DirecTV to have them activate the new box and deactivate the old one, but those instructions should come with the box.

Received the replacement (refurbished  ) and installed. Once I downloaded and installed new software (013e) everything is working really well :)

My video connection is via HDMI to DVI. First impressions in watching SD (480i) is the picture is much sharper and very impressive. Recorded a 1/2 hour program in HD, and all seems to be working really well. So I will continue to experiment.

First impression: REALLY NICE. I will consider replacing my other two H20 receivers with the HR20. Question: since I will need an additional 2 cables from the SAT for these, how do you do this? Is this where this multi switch comes in? If so, where do you install this?

This forum has been extremely helpful. Thanks to all! :)

Cheers,
John

The 5-LNB dish has four outputs. If you replace the H20's w/ HR20's that will be a total of 6 tuners. You would need at least the the Zinwell WB68 multi-switch to accomadate all three receivers.

There is a product in testing called SWM. See link below.

It allows for single wire locations to utilize both tuners w/ just a single cable. It is not out for consumer purchase yet. no one knows for sure when. Earl would probably be the first to be able to let us know when D* makes it available to the masses.

You take the four outputs from the SAT dish and connect to the 4 inputs of the multi-switch. From there you would have 8 outputs to distribute thru out your house as needed. You would need some cable and connectors to complete the task.

I assume that D* will install this multi switch with the additional cables? If I can get a good deal from D*, I may go for this. Is there a link for the multi switch?
