View Full Version : Samsung LCD using HDMI with HR20
I've gone through some of the posts and wanted to post my own just in case the model #'s are different.
My problem is I have a Samsung 40" LCD HDTV (LN-S4051D) and I'm using the HR20 from Direct Tv. The installed originally hooked it up using S-Video (retarded I know), so I swamped that out and used an HDMI connection. It worked for about a week but now is saying it's not recognizable. I called for a service request and the installer told me there is a compatibitliy issue with the HR20 and Samsung TV's and that I will have to use my components instead. I paid for HDMI slots on my TV with the hope of actually using them ... is there a fix for this?
Thanks guys.

I have almost the same model Samsung you have, LN-S3251D and I don't have a problem with HDMI. Have you called Samsung support?
For your reference my setup is HR20 HDMI > Sony STR DG800 HDMI > TV HDMI2.

I have a LN-S4041D and my HR20 works fine with the HR20, I did have a 4051D and it worked fine with the HR20. I carried the 4051 back because of the terrible sound.

If you search for LN-S4051D in the threads, there are a lot of comments about it. I did find that the dolby digital has some issues when using the HDMI and the work around was to use the optical out of the HR20 to the audio source.
Good luck!

Yes, I read that but the topic seemed focus on the audio side ... my issue is that the HDMI isn't recognized .... really bums me out that I can't use HDMI.

I have a Sammy rear projector, I would think the components would about the same, any way I found that if the HDMI cable gets bumped or jostled the Sammy just wont pick it back up. I ended up doing several resets when moving my TV & trying to get the wiring the way I wanted it .
I would suggest a reset, usually my video came back during the reset and I could see the searching for Satellite etc.

Very strange that it worked earlier. I have the 3251D...essentially the same, just smaller screen size.
Did you disable 480i from TV Type menu on the HR20?
Try that if not.
That seemed to cause an issue with my set.

I have to use the number 2 HDMI connector on our LN-S4051D to get it to work with the HR20, weird, but it works here.

I didn't even think of this before, but if I ENABLE any resolution other than 1080i then try to switch to that resolution I get no signal on my TV. According to the specs for my model only 1080i is supported via HDMI. I discovered all this when just messing about with resolutions and the native setting. So check the "res" light on the front of your HR20,rowedf, and if it is on anything other than 1080i press the button until you get to that resolution. That may help.
I have a 3251, ran it on component cable to begin with, great picture no problems. I then bought an HDMI cable cause I wanted to use the component input for a DVD. I had shadowing of previous picture screens on the black transition screen to whatever I was going to, whether it was changing channels, or between scenes in a show. I decided it must be the HDMI cable, so I went back to a heavier duty component cable and switched the DVD to an S-video. The shadowing went away and the picture is marvelous. This is with a H20 BTW, not the HR20.
