I was wondering about a Directv Receiver that I purchased from Ebay, it's a Samsung SIR-S4040R model, I forgot to check with Directv to see if there were any outstanding balances on that receiver as well as if the previous owner had deactivated that receiver, well my questions are, can I use an existing access card that I have on a receiver that is still active on my account? also, can I use an existing drive that is from that same active receiver on the Samsung unit? my existing receiver is a Philips DSR704 model, I figured that way I wouldn't have to purchase a new access card for $20 which Directv requires now for activation of any old receivers, if the existing card from my Philips works on the Samsung then I can deactivate the Philips and active the Samsung receiver, thanks for the help

Access cards get "married" to the receivers they are activated on. You won't be able to pop an access card out of one of your other receivers and put it into the one you just purchased.

Sure you can & then go through the hoops with D* to get it to work.

Sorta true. Sometimes, but either way you will have to call D*. Sometimes they will let you replace a unit already on your account by taking a card out of the old unit and putting it in the new one; then the refresh the account; and you can be live. If the card is too old in the old unit, they will make you pay $20 for a new card. Either way, they want you to send the original card from the previous user back to them for any PPV left on that account.
Cheers,
Tom
