View Full Version : Do I need to supply cables ?
We are getting our HR20 installed this weekend and one thing I'm having a problem with is finding out if I need to supply and connector cables for the install.
I'll be wanting to connect via component or HDMI to the TV and then optical to my amp.
Do I need to go out and get these cables or are they supplied?
Also, where can I find a good image of the back of the HR20 so I can see what other options I have for connectors.

Crutchfield has great pics for the front and back of the HR20. Just do a search for it over there.

I'm glad that they started to include an HDMI cable, but they quality of their RCA/component cables has declined......these used to be fairly hefty cables, but now they're very thin.....

Thanks for letting me know that the cables are included. That will save a little heartache.

I just got my HR20 installed yesterday. While there is an HDMI-HDMI cable in the box, I would highly recommend getting a more substantial one with better shielding. Also you will need to get your own optical audio cable as this was not included. And I have to agree with say-what on the component cables. These would probably be fine at 480 resolutions, but at 720 and especially 1080 something more substantial (with better shielding) would be a good idea.
My $0.02 worth.

I just ordered my HR20 three days ago, and I asked the CSR if it came with an HDMI cable and she said no, some installers carry them, but they would charge me up to $200 for one! What gives?

What gives? If it's a recently manufactured unit (my 2nd unit was manufactured 3/10/07) it should have an hdmi cable in the box. If you want to buy one, many members have recommended this site: http://www.monoprice.com/home/index.asp

I got my HR20-700 in the beginning of feb. It came with an HDMI cable... albeit a flimsy junker. I normally wouldn't care, but this thing is really really flimsy. I spent $25 on a good hefty belkin cable. I'm not paying more than that for a 6' piece of wire. Forget Monster. Anyone retailer charging more than $25 for a cable is just trying to cash in on the "HD" consumer trend. Since HD is the new thing, what all the cool kids are doing, people can be brainwashed into buying the most expensive accessory.

HDMI cables are the "undercoating" of the digital age. What part of digital is confusing? It is a series of 1s and 0s. Either the cable works (i.e. is not broken) and you have a digital picture and sound, or you don't. Spend your money on expensive HDMI cables - I'll keep using the one from D* and spend my money on beer.
The fact that this receiver comes with all of the cables is a benefit. Please send your unwanted "flimsy" cables to me.

Just got my HR20-700 installed Friday, and I am happy to report that I am very happy with it. The unit came with the HDMI cable in the box (CSR told me it would not), also component, composite, and phone. The HDMI cable seems adequate, although the component and composite cables are as flimsy as they could possibly make them. I only used the HDMI, and it seems fine.
