tivo is now allowing u to download movies to you tivo. like renting them. will that be available on DTV's tivo's?

I really doubt it...there are lots of things that Tivo standalones can do that DTivo's cannot.

Not on the DirecTV/Tivos. Standalone Tivos are up to v8.x software, while DirecTV/Tivos are only at 6.x software, and probably won't be enhanced beyond that.
