Need Your Input for SundayTicket/SuperfaN
I will be happy to serve as our class secretary and assemble our aggregate suggestions at the end of this thread. At that point, I plan to PM the results to Earl and request that he get some attention for us and pass these ideas back to the right DIRECTV developers to consider: Enhanced Screen For starts: my personal input has to do with a feature called the "Enhanced Game Screen". More popularly, it's called the "L" screen, because you give up some "L" shaped geography on your screen and in return get an "L" pattern showing the status and score of ten other games. It is available for both SundayTicket and SuperfaN subscribers. (See the photo attachment.)
The suggestions:
Keep all the early Sunday games on screen #1, and all the late Sunday games on screen #2. Don't make me jump back and forth between screen #1 to screen #2. The games will fit in the current "L"; last season only one week (week 11) had more than ten early games. Most importantly, keep all the late Sunday games on the screen #2 "L".
Once I have selected the "L" display, keep that "L" display turned on even when I change channels. That is: as long as the channel I'm changing to is selected by clicking one of the "L" icons or is directly selected and is within the SundayTicket or SuperfaN channel range, keep the "L" active. Don't make me have to re-request it with every channel change. Yeah -- If I go off to a local channel to view a game that is blacked out, I'll lose the "L". I understand.
On the "L" display, update the scores and status of the games much closer to real time. Because of the update delays last year, I would often change to a game where the status just turned red, only to find that that the team had already scored a few minutes earlier. Please post your thoughts, ideas and suggestions for SundayTicket and SuperfaN. We're early enough in the process to provide some good input for the DIRECTV development folks that could be implemented this year.
Our input can help make the final product something that we are all proud of!

one problem that really irked me last year was how difficult it was to access the game stats and other interactive features due to major lag (sometimes over a minute). however this most likely was due to my r15 problems as opposed to sunday ticket problems

last year you could program a certain amount of players to track their stats (mainly useful for tracking your fantasy football players). i would love to have have the option to program an additional set of players since i was in two fantasy leagues last year. they could be labled "team 1" and "team 2". or something to that effect.

i really hope that is fixed this year. its a really fun feature. but last year it was for the most part useless. sometimes the interactive menu wouldnt even come up unless i changed the channel then changed back. the only time i wanted to mess around with that stuff was during commercials. but the lag was so bad that the commercial break would usually be over before the screeen ever popped up. drove me crazy!

This question was posed in the DirecTV Superfan forum:
Is there anyway to turn off the pop up that keeps coming up everytime you change the channel (to another game) reminding you of the color buttons to bring up scores and stats? It's getting a bit annoying now. Every single time the channel is changed I have to answer this question.

Yes, I agree!!! I also hated having to go each week to channel 795 to set preferences again so the Player Tracker pop up was off:nono2: .

You can also contact DirecTV yourself by email and let them know that this is an annoyance. They will forward your issue to the proper department. By having the Sunday Ticket means you want a lot of football. And that means channel changing. Channel changing = pop-up every single time to answer the same question. It is annoying.

How about, make the player tracker stuff work on non-ST channels/locals. THat's #1 in my list.
1) Game mix in HD.
2) When I select a game off of game mix, take me to the HD channel and not the SD channel.

A single page that would show you all your players stats that you are tracking... Plus, save them instead of having to put them in every week - Might be an HR20 think though.

A lot of people get it to see their team they used to root for before they left town. What would really be great would be if you could purchase a single game, or two, etc., each week and not have to pay for all of them. I really don't know if that would cost them money or make them money. Anyway that would be nice.

will never happen. because nearly everyone gets it ONLY for their favorite team. why give you the option to only purchase your team's games for a fraction of the cost when you'll pay full price for all the games just to watch your team.

Don't include the HD games in SuperFan. Have just an HD addon that is cheaper than the 99 dollars.
Since we pay an HD Access Fee should that not cover our HD access to games. Seems like we would be paying twice for HD then.
This is keeping me from renewing ST next year. That and the fact that both networks are running double headers this year. I can listen to my game on Sirius if it is not broadcasted locally.

HD should absolutely be included in your HD access fee and not part of superfan.
It costs enough as is without squeezing the xtra $99 out of ya!

I would like to see Game Mix and Red Zone in true HD widescreen with the pictures in widescreen HD (links obviously going to HD channel). That may only mean 4 games per screen but thats ok. It would be great if you could pick which 4 games you want to watch. I find the amount of screens/games and background real estate too much. The SD picture quality is also terrible.
4 games, HD, widescreen, and games filling all the screen.
Scores would be cool as a red button or something. You can toggle it on or off. The scores could overlap partial transparant or could do a screen squeeze. I would have to see both versions to see which one works.
Also, Fantasy player stats toggle on and off on any Sunday Ticket game/screen. Hit something like green button and they show and green again they dissappear.

That and the fact that both networks are running double headers this year.
Is that true for 2007-2008? I know they did that the last weekend this past year because of the playoff implications, but I got no feeling that this would go any farther than that.

I can't find the quote, but I remember reading that someone from the NFL in an interview said that was not a normal thing, and would only be considered in close playoff impact games/weeks.

I think I have been on NFLST for 6 years now, last year was my first with HD.
Don't get me wrong I love having all the games but with me wanting to watch the Raiders (yeah, I know but I live in MN so what is worse) and with CBS lacking HD and the raiders sucking there were on HD 1 time on CBS (maybe 2). My problem is with the Flex schedule now most of all the good games are on locally and are always in HD during the last month of the season. This is the main reason why I get NFLST is to see the good games that were not on locally because cleveland, detroit or the hated pack are closer to me. So unless they can offer me something better I may just get the NHL package.

Already works that way.
Hmm... Does selecting a game on the "L" screen take you to the SD version, then? I remember being really annoyed about something like that early in the season and then not using that feature anymore. That's why I don't remember.
Also, an HD Red Zone would be nice.
IIRC, on the Game Mix channel when a game was also in HD is rotated through the SD and HD channel number in the bottom coroner. If you hit that window when it was the SD channel displayed that's what you got switched to, same for when the HD channel number was displayed. Timing is everything.

I thought that too but every time I selected it, I was always taken to the HD channel. I was very suprised and happy to see this. I had to remember which games were on my locals though as it would take you to the ST channel which of course was blacked out.

Hey guys, I'm new to D*. On the website it says that you can get the NFLST for 5 payments of $49.80, that's $249 for the year. The Superfan has not been updated yet, but are you telling me that is $99 extra. I want the HD stuff, but I'm not sure that I want it for $99.
Maybe I'm missing something.

Currently, DirecTV has an exclusive deal with the NFL, making them the sole provider of NFL Sunday Ticket in the United States until the contract expires in 2010, though past history suggests DirecTV will renew the contract by then in order to maintain one of its key marketing pitches to potential subscribers.

I totally agree. All I want from the SF is HD games. I would pay a little extra but not the full price. It is not worth $99 just for HD. D* gave me SF last year for free and I will not pay for it this season!

Hate to point it out, but if you'll notice the new MLB Package just now coming out.... it has its own 'SuperfaN' addon (at a price) package for HD.
It would seem the marketing is clear.
This is a great thread & any improvements to NFL Sunday Ticket and Superfan would be great. I can't wait to watch the games in HD. : )

I got superfan for free last year (first year with hd) and will pay for it again as I got hooked watching games in hd (especially with my Steelers!). But like others, I have no use for any of the superfan features except the hd broadcasts. And even though I know they can do pretty much whatever they want, making you pay extra for these hd broadcasts is inconsistent with their basic policy now of having your pay for hd access and then getting whatever hd broadcasts are then available in your programming package. So, for the price of hd access I can get HBOHD if I subscribe to HBO, but not Showtimehd if I don't subscribe to Showtime. That makes sense to me. Then why doesn't HD access get you NFLST hd broadcasts if you subscribe to NFLST?

03-31-07, 03:05 AM
I think they charge extra for the HD feeds because of the extra bandwidth used. Does this make sense? My biggest wish for NFLST has nothing to do with D*. It is CBS only doing 3 games in HD each week. The AFC is being slighted big time and was the better conference last year. I only watch (record) games broadcast in HD. What you fantasy and DLB guys really need is the split screen PIP that the VIP622 just got. I guess the HR20 will never do this (bummer). I record all the games and watch them one at a time. I get my fourth HR20 installed today. I just need one more by Sept.;)

How about selecting a game and when you click on the red button, you can select multiple camera angles, mutliple audio choices, in-game highlights. That would be great to just to hear the fans and/or my team radio broadcast while watching the game from the End-Zone camera.

Yeah, I forgot about the CBS thing. That really sucks. I was speaking with a very helpful DTV CSR ("Enhanced Support") and she told me that CBS plans on adding one additional game each year in HD. So this year we should get four, next year five, and so forth. I don't know how reliable that is, but it will be interesting to see how many HD broadcasts they do next season.

Not surprised. This was one of the most informed CSRs I ever spoke with at DTV. I had called earlier complaining about not being able to get the Penguins game on 95 as the guide had promised and got a lot of misinformation for about an hour. Then later in the afternoon I called again and got routed automatically to "enhanced support" (or something like that). She not only knew her stuff but was willing to admit when she didn't (instead of feeding me a line to get me to hang up like the earlier CSRs had done). I should have gotten her name. She was good!

How about offering the shortcuts in HD? If a game is telecast in HD, is there any reason the shortcut shouldn't be HD?
Another suggestion: For the Game Mix or "L" channels, how about making reducing or eliminating the border area and making the games bigger? Even on a big screen, they look tiny.
I also agree with the suggestion of Red Zone Channel in HD. It's a great feature, but who wants to watch it in SD when most of the games are in HD?
mnbulldog
04-02-07, 08:53 PM
Been using NFLST for 6 years nowand SF for both years. The price keeps going up and it will probably keep going up. So be it. Eventually they will kill their own market. I will keep paying because I have a roommate to split it with and is cheaper than hitting the bar for 17 weeks 0- by far. Enough said about the pricing. It is what it is. Subscribe or don't.
My biggest complaints (in order) are:
1. Red Zone Channel not in HD (WHY?)
2. Game Mix Channel not in HD (WHY?)
3. Keeping the L when switching channels.
4. Showing active games on the L (once the early games end - put the late games on the first page and then Finals after that)
Even if games are broadcast in SD (thank you CBS) they can be sidebar'd for Red Zone Channel.

Maybe this only works on my rcvr but when the pop-up would come up the first time (first game I tuned to) there is something that says press (color that I can't remember) to cancel (or something to that effect) and it would never come up again. This is for the player tracker notice.
It's possible that the red zone and game mix channels are not in HD because all of the games are not in HD so they would have a mix of HD and SD. Just my guess. In 2009 when all are in HD lets hope that changes.

Attached is the message I sent to Earl today, listing what appeared to be our top ten requests.
Earl responded within a few minutes and said he would forward the message on to the right folks within DIRECTV.
