View Full Version : Help with DSR 708 r/17 -Please Wait. DST...

Sorry but I am new to the Direct TV/Tivo DVR system. Just purchased a Vizio 60" and had a Philips DSR 708 r/17 (Direct TV unit) given to me to use with it. Everything set up fine except for two things - one the time is not adjusted for DST, even thought it has dialed in to the DirectTv twice, and when I go to record a show, just one or a season past, it seems to take a long time for the "please wait" to disappear and the show to record.

My friend has a Philips 40 hour unit and it records within seconds.

Can anyone tell me if there is a way to correct this and if there is any other suggestion to fix the DST. Also, it is running software version 3.1.1e-01-2-301. Is this the latest software (I do not know what "series" this recorder is).

And, one last question, is there a wireless option to this DVR (has USB port in back) that maybe I can download updates from the web.

delstvn - Where did you get the unit from?

It does not have the latest software version on it.
And if it is dialing in, and not downloading... It could have an issue with the modem or soemthing.

You may have to re-image the hard drive with the latest version.

(Note DSR704 and DSR708 are the same except for hard drive size)

Thanks for your reply. I will look on the Tivo Community for more help as well.

My friend had bought this off of Ebay about a year ago but they went to HD and bought a new receiver so they gave me this one, since I do not have HD yet.

Is it hard to do redo the hard drive or is this something a regular person can do. I am computer proficient but not so much on the hardware side.
