Are you talking about the little black antenna the comes in the box? If that is what you are talking about that is the RF antenna for the remote.

What antenna are you talking about?

If it is a basic loop, you can get one at just about any department store or electronics store.

I bought a cheapy at Target.

I guess you could pull something in with it but it is for the RF remote.

He must be close to the broadcast towers and they must be using UHF channels

i have seen a situation where someone used the rf antenna attached to a tv atsc tuner and got ota locals so it definetly is very possible

I would guess that a paper clip would work in that location too. The RF antenna for the remote would be half of "A" dipole. Not much of an antenna, but still an antenna.
I've used window screens, in my day.

I just plugged mine in and went through the setup and now I have almost all the New York City HD locals!

I live 8 miles the main transmitters.

the signal strenght is in the 50's but they still come in!

hmm my installer put a RF antenna in my original H20's ATSC in and it worked really well.(He did it by accident i found out later when RF remote didnt work) then when my H20 broke they accidentally replace it with an HR10 and i put the antenna in there and that same on is currently in my second HR20. I was shocked it worked but it saved me from splitting my OTA's cable after it was already ran into the first HR20's room.

My installer put that antenna in my OTA port and explained that he was "hooking me up" with a free HD atenna. I just said thanks and tried not to laugh :)

Hey if it works it works. Why buy ANYTHING if that works?
