I currently have a directv dual lnb with an 8 way multi-switch. All 8 outputs are currently being used. I was wondering if I could add another 8 or 4 way switch to one of the existing outputs on the 8 way??

More importantly, I have a second UTV reciever in my basement that is being fed by one coax. I was wondering if I could put a 4 port multiswitch at the end of the coax in the basement in order to get both tuners on the UTV working? This existing coax is coming off my 8 way switch. Basically I am trying to avoid another coax run.

If I were you, I'd post this question in the Ultimatetv discussion at www.avsforum.com There are some folks there that have some pretty elaborate setups with multiple multi-switches.

I'm not sure about using more than one multi-switch. I don't think you are going to get out of running a second coax to your other UTV unit in the basement.

A multiswitch requires two inputs (for a 2 x X multiswitch), one for each polarity. So to cascade a second multiswitch off the first, you'll need to use two outputs of the first.

To uses a multiswitch in the basement you'll need to runa second coax down there.

UNLESS...you use a device called a stacker. This device changes the frequency of one set of signals (think one of the coaxs) and 'stacks' both sets of signals on one coax. Then at the other end an unstacker or destacker sets things back normal again, with each set of signals on it's own coax. Then you can wire into a device like the UTV or a multiswitch.

Stackers aren't cheap, and usually are used as a last resort when runnign another coax is just out of the question.

Search here, at AVSFourm and at DBSForums for 'stacker' and you should come up with a good bunch of descussion with eaxmples and pricing ranges.

Good luck.
