This is a longshot but I wonder if there is anyway to bypass the "Channel Categories" screen when you click the "Guide" button? It sure would be handy - I've probably use that screen maybe 2 or 3 times in the last several months of the time.
I know that you can click it twice to get there, but there seems to be a built in delay - you can't quick the button twice too quickly - which is sort of what you want to do to skip that screen.
Thanks.

Yup, there sure is. Do a search, I forget the exact step by step. There is a hidden menu.
Edit: Instructions can be found in this (http://www.dbstalk.com/showthread.php?t=84082) thread.
Yes. Search the cutting edge forum for "hidden menu" or "one button guide". I forget the exact steps to get to it, but once you do you can select the one button guide option.
This will be a regular, not hidden, menu in a future release, but it is available as a hidden menu in the current national release.

here is the instruction I found - is this the one-button guide instruction? I'm kind of a rookie so please bear with me.
Press Menu-->Search-->Keyword-->type IAMANEDGECUTTER-->press seach when it finds nothing press and hold menu and info button on the front of the unit for about 2 seconds and let go. Once you do this one time you will only have to press menu and info next time.

More instructions, these may be clearer:

And in the future, you only need to press menu and info to get to that hidden menu, you don't have to go through the search process again.

And while you're in there, you should go ahead and turn off animations.

\AMAZING! A big thanks to all who responded so quickly - it works! Why is this a hidden option with a "secret" password method to get to it?
Are there more special hidden gems??
Thanks again!

No, you can't.
The HR10-250 is an entirely different system.
See www.tivocommunity.com for things you can do with that system.
That will take you to a menu that will give you the option to enable one button guide.
Forgive my asking probably a question obvious to most of you here...but I'm a tivo guy who just switched to the HR20 last weekend. (So far so good, thankfully.)
To use the IAMANEDGECUTTER hidden menu, must I force download the CE that has been discussed in this thread and others? Fearing for the stability of the HR20 I don't want the CE until it's national...but can I still access the hidden menu to get the one button guide feature?
Animations...which ones does it turn off...makes the system operate more quickly, or are animations a known source of freezes, etc...?
Thanks all.

What model HR20 do you have...
HR20-700 or HR20-100
As for Animations: In the Menu's and the Now Playing List.
No, not really a source of "Freezing"... just a user option to tweak to your preference.

The hidden menu is in the latest national release for the HR20-700. It will be in the menu itself at some point when D* figures out where the would like to put it.

If you have an HR20-700...
The national release version for the HR20-100 does not have those features.

Ummmm...I believe it's the -700... It was installed on Saturday and appears to be new. It's silver, not black. Jeeze, I guess I don't know. Can check tonight when I get home from work.
I'm trying to remember what the menu and VOD screens look like, I don't recall any moving animations...it makes me think of the TiVo guy, but clearly he is not there!

Take a look when you get home.
There is a Black and Silver version of the -100 model.
(Actually all you have to look at is the software version number... if it is 0x145 the "tweaking" features are available)

If you go under INFO in the menu it will also tell you the model.

Dallas Fan. I put the Skins right up there with how much I hate the Yankees.
Under setup click info & test.

Well, at least we can agree that the Yankees are worthless. :)

You can hold down the Info button for 3-4 seconds, and the System Information screen will display. This is an alternative to: Menu -> Help & Settings -> Setup -> Info & Test -> System Info :)

NOTE: This trick will only work on an HR20-700.
The HR20-100 is not on a software version with this tweek in it
