This question is part DirecTV Tivo (R10) and part HR20 DVR.

I upgraded my DirecTV service to HD yesterday. The installer came, mounted a new 5-LNB dish and upgraded us to HD programming and a new HR20 DVR. We moved the existing R10 Tivo unit to another room. Before he installed the dish, the R10 worked fine. After installation, it says "searching for satellite signal." I had already left and the installer left before my wife could check the other recievers. We have an old Hughes receiver in another roomo that works just fine.. .both before and after the new dish. But the R10 can't see the dish, or is perhaps misconfigured.

I have double-checked that the R10 Tivo is only looking for the Satellite 1 input (it was in a location with two lines, but that's where the HR-20 went). None of the house's internal wiring changed. Any thoughts?

The Tivo setup starts by asking the shape of the dish. There are three options, none of which is the 5-LNB dish (I guess they didn't have then when the R10 came out). So I chose 3-LNB oval because it was closest.

However, I've tried the other two options, too, just to see if they would work, and they don't either.

Lastly, the HR20's second tuner doesn't see the satellite either - but the 1st tuner works just fine. Again, no internal cabling changed, so I suspect it's something at the dish.

DirecTV is sending someone on Friday to look at it, but just the same, I'd love to figure out what went wrong.

I have the same setup--adding an HDVR2 to the mix of R10 + HR20 through a multi-switch. No problem with this set-up, the 3LNB configuration works fine with the 5LNB dish. First thing is to swap the cables between the Sat 1 and Sat 2 leads to see if the problem is in the box or the feed. Assuming you have five tuners, (Hughes box + 2xR10 + 2xHR20), there should be a new 6x8 multiswitch somewhere. One dead feed, best guess is a poor termination. Two dead feeds means really bad terminations or something conceptually wrong. Based on the fools who did my upgrade, either is possible. Swap the leads for each receiver at the switch to see if the problem moves back to Sat 1 from Sat 2. That will tell you which cable run is bad.

Wlcome to the forum:welcome_s it is always nice to have new members.

First of all did you only have the TiVo and the one other receiver before you got the HR20? If so you probably do not have a multi-switch and if that is the case the installer should have installed one for you. If you do not have one then you do not have enough lines right now and he probably left one of the lines that was going to the room you now have the TiVo in disconnected from the dish. Please let me know if you only had two receiver's before and if you have a multi-switch and we will go from there.
