According to the Hollywood Reporter,
Echostar Communications Corp. said that it still wanted to carry the Extra Innings out-of-market package from Major League Baseball on DirecTV but said it was likely to be too costly.
... "We are not optimistic we can strike a fair deal for our customers," an Echostar spokeswoman said.

Edit: Thread title should be Dish "not optimistic" on EI
That is too bad. EI is a better investment than Voom. Voom also
requires an expense spread among all HD subs.
Failure to close this deal further distinguishs Dish programming from not just only Directv, but the Digital cable giants, Comcast, Time Warner, etc. and their HD RSNs.
A multivideo provider should offer something for everyone.
Dish does not provide one baseball RSN to me, and I live in a baseball
rich area. I subbed to MLB EI from Dish for three years in order to get
baseball. Verizon, Comcast and Cablevision all provide three baseball
RSNs in my county. Dish cannot provide me SNY because I live in the
Philadelphia DMA. But digital cable (Verizon in my case) under the Major League Television contiguous county rule provides me with CSN Phila, YES and SNY.

No big deal the real loser is Direct TV customers and MLB since I have my doubts that Direct TV will last more than three years.
Robert Murdoch is selling Direct Tv because they have too much of a financial drain on his company. I doubt that liberty Media has enough cash flou to cover Direct Tv expenses.

Where's the source for that statement?.

I am sure it is just speculation but Directv hasn't made any profit till just the last few years , where Dish has made profit for about 5 years or more. But the amount of money that Directv has sunk into sports has been extensive and it will cause them to have to hike their prices higher and higher to pay for them. But all in all Directv has changed hands now about 3 times since they started 13 years ago and Rupert did refer to them as the " Turd Bird. " Maybe he felt the time was right to sh*t or get off the pot so to speak , and unload the "Turd bird" while the getting was good.

I suspected as much when we saw the RSN's in HD go live...
Honestly for MOST fans, having their local RSN available is more important than having an out of market package available anyways.

I noticed Dish dropped channel 625 from the EGP. It was the MLB EI channel Dish left on the EPG during the off-season. It fell off last night...not a good sign.
OTOH, we did get our local RSN in HD, and still can watch the OofM games on MLB.com.
Dish has updated their website to explain their position. And their position is the blame game reminiscent of the inDemand public statements in the early stages of this controversy.
I personally am glad that Dish will not get another Premium sports channe that I have to help pay for.
I mean why should I want the Sports fans to have their programming when Dish will not provide the programming I want in Here! and LOGO?

Stop your wining about paying for something you don't use. Everybody does it every day. You pay DISH for the dymb shopping and religon channels you never use. You pay department stores higher prices to cover the shopping others do that you don't. You pay the government taxes for services you don't use. Besides Extra Innings is pay as you go and wouldn't cost you anything is you didn't want it. Lastly, if your a baseball and you live in the DC like me you get zilch from DISH on baseball. No MASN, no MLB Extra Innings. Charlie will try to tell you you get games on FOX and ESPN but thats a lot of smoke. He always uses the excuse of not wanting to charge people who don't use a service. why don't I ever hear that from DirectTV and they don't cost that much more than Dish. Time to start looking at alternatives to Dish. Especially if your a baseball fan in the DC area.

Hey brainiac, the "dymb" shopping channels and "religon" channels pay to be on Dish, we don't pay for them to be on Dish!
And as far as looking for an alternative to Dish, SEE YA!

Notice you didn't challenge the poster on the "pay as you go" statement since thats what EI is.

Do you have a link? I don't find this spin doctoring...

Major League Baseball is not directly accountable to what consumers demand or what but Congress is. Should we be talking to our Congressmen about this?

I will be looking for an alternative to DISH also. Their reasoning in their statement on the website is just sheer stupidity and reeks of cheapness. They state that you can watch baseball on your RSN. Well they don't carry my RSN,MASN. They are locked in another cheap episode with them and won't sign an agreement that everyone else has. I think in the long run this bad business as DISH is going to lose out most of the eastern seaboard at this rate. But Ergin will probably sell out soon and won't have to worry about the ramifications of these decisions.

This thread is about Dish sending signals that it's giving up on Extra Innings. Please don't bring up other channels. And everywhere on these forums, if you can't say something nice about someone else, then you shouldn't say anything at all.

Over on the DirecTV side, we don't have daily threads about QVC, History Channel, TLC, or pretty much 99% of the 600+ channels that are in the data stream.
This about the Extra Innings package, not about what other channels Dish (or DirecTV) carry... and what their user base talks about on a dialy basis.

I just called DirecTV and ordered their service - install is on Monday. I will cancel E* after 10 years as soon as the new service is installed. Being a big baseball fan and living in the DC left me no choice since E* apparently will not carry either Extra Innings or MASN this season. Plus I get YES with the DirecTV Sports Package. Best part about it it looks like the DirecTV service will cost me about $30 less per month since they include things that E* charges extra for.

In short, if you do not like the choices that you have with your current service, satellite/cable or other wise. Or they refuse the carry the programming that interests you the most. Or for what ever reason you not longer like what you’re paying for. Pick up the phone and call the other guy. Don’t sit here and slam each other or slam Charlie, whether you like the way he conducts business or not. If your unhappy or feel sighted call another company explain your dis-pleasure and maybe they can work with you a little as a new customer . That’s what I did 2 years ago and I`m damn glad I did :D :D :D :D :D very happy camper now !!!

There ya go,your problem solved, each must decide there own stay or go dont just rant and get p.o.`ed at each other.
The nice thing about the MLB/DirecTV/cable contract is that you *know* it is for seven years. So if you hook up into a contract with those guys you don't have to worry about being shut out of programming with nowhere to go because the contract keeps you in. I don't have confidence in Dish any longer with the sports packages. I'm not a sports fanatic that subscribes to them all but I'd like the opportunity to subscribe.....like when my team, the Tigers, had a great season last year I had to get EI. Dish is on the slippery downhill slope with sports fans these days and I don't plan to stay longer than necessary.

I'm not a sports fanatic that subscribes to them all but I'd like the opportunity to subscribe.....You do have the opportunity to subscribe -- just not on E*. But there is an alternative: Switch to D* or subscribe to MLB.TV. At least you have an alternative!
(BTW, if enough people leave E* citing Charlie's business decision not to carry EI, that would do more to inspiring him to change his mind than all the ranting and whining on all the boards in the world!)

Murdoch is selling D* because if he does, he gets FULL and unimpeded control of his "family" company.
Actually, D* has been turning a profit recently. Before they were a "growing" company, but not a cash cow.
