Well I have made the swtich from E* to D*. I am getting installed tomorrow. I have been pretty happy with E* over the past three years but the loss of MLB EI has caused me to switch. Plus you don't have to buy the HD receiver witn D* anymore. My question to you all is.... Is there anything that I need to be aware of before, during or after the install? Anything I should look for with the installer or tell him? There are a few pine trees in the direction that the dish needs to point but I am getting 61.5 from E* with no problem. Thanks in advance for any input.

You might want to review some of the recent installation experiences here ....

Make sure you have signals on all 5 SAT's in the 90's if you do not you will have problems with the MPEG4 HD channels. Are you only have the HD receiver installed or will there be more receivers? If so list what you are getting so we have more information to help you.

I am getting an H20 and whatever the regular SD receiver is for my second room. I am not going to get DVR right now.

For ease of future updates, have the installer run all four lines from the dish to a common location and distribute to the rooms from there. If you think you may want a DVR in the future, run two lines to those rooms from that central location. If you ever need more than four lines, the central location is where the extra multiswitch would be located.

Ok so you will not need a multi-switch. But make sure the installer drops all 4 lines down from the dish. So if you do add the HD DVR or anything else you or another installer will not need to screw with the dish.

Is dropping all four lines down from the dish considered "standard installation" since I am not getting a DVR right now?

NO, its not standard, The Techs do not get paid to run EXTRA wire just to future proof. In Direct we only get paid for what we do. SO if you are getting ONE Hidef And ONE Standard receivers, then the tech will just run TWO lines from the dish to the grounding point. Theres is nothing run with that.
one analogy:
I IM getting 4 standard receivers, but i might get 4 dvrs later on, run the two wires to each destination. NO ONe would do extra stuff outside of what they are mandated to do. Its not good practice.
