Hi Everyone!
First, thanks for all the helpful advice given in another thread. I have been a subscriber to *E for almost 9 years but got *D today so that I would have MLB Extra Innings. I'll use the service for the 6 months of baseball season then suspend it for 6 months and then pick it back up.
I got the CHOICE package which is the minimum subscription that enabled me to get EI and with that, got the basic DVR as well as a D11-500. The installer was on time, had worked doing installs for 10 years and was very good, much better than the last 3 E* installers that had been to our house so my experience with *D started on a very good note.
I just started looking at the channels, read the User Guide (more like a pamphlet than a guide, I thought) and was wondering some things about the remote and the D11.
1) How do I change the order of the channel lineup? It's descending and I want ascending. To me, it makes sense for 12 to follow 11 when I push the Up channel button.
2) How do I prevent the GUIDE from showing channels I don't get? With DISH, i can select it to show either "All channels" or "All Subscribed Channels". I don't see any option for this. Do I have to go through and block every channel I don't receive or make a favorites list to only include the ones I get? Are you KIDDING me?
3) How do I program the volume? Every single DISH receiver I have had over the years has an AUX button that I can use for the volume control on my audio receiver. My 40" Samsung LCD has fixed audio and I have a Sony receiver that my audio runs thru to surround sound speakers. All I see is Sat/AV1/AV2/TV as far as programmable options.
4) The audio and video seem a bit out of sync. What's up with that? I am running the video using an S video cable from the satellite receiver to the back of the TV.
I understand that this is a very basic receiver but the issues I am asking about seem sort of basic as far as setup and I think that I must be missing something.
Thanks in advance for your help. I truly appreciate it!

Welcome.
1. If you are in the guide arent the channels listed in ascending order? So if you push up, it goes to lower numbered stations, up the guide, which is lower numbers. if you are not in the guide, up should take you from 11 to 12, down should take you from 12 to 11 just like normal.
2. Under setup, there should be a setting to select channel you get, and use that list. I dont have a D11, so I cant be sure, but all D* receivers I have ever had did.
3. AV1 and AV2 are both what you could consider aux controls...the book should tell you exactly how to program your av receiver or tv volume to work. I run all my audio through my HT as well, and have the remote set to control the recevier volume and not my tv. Read the manual, follow the screen prompts under setup, or download the pdf from Directs website.
4. Is it out of sync on all channels or just certain channels, because that can make a difference as to where the problem might be.

thanks for your reply! I got the AV1 to control the volume but haven't been able to find a code for my TV yet. Is there a website that offers more codes? I have a Samsung LNS 4051D
As far as the audio, it seems that all the channels are a bit out of sync

Call D* technical support. They sometimes have extra codes.
As far as the audio, it seems that all the channels are a bit out of syncIf you're using an AV receiver it may be delaying the audio; especially if it is also a Samsung. Try using the RF output to the TV with the TV's audio to see if that doesn't clear up the delay. If the RF (combined video and audio) signal has delayed audio, then that's the way it is going to be.
Before you tinker with changing things around, you might make sure that there aren't any surround sound or other audio enhancement modes turned on.

1. If you are not in the guide, channel up will take the channel numbers up. If you are in the guide, channel up will page up.
2. The newer receivers have the channels I get option, but the option is not enabled/supported yet. Supposedly that option will be there in some future software update.
3. & 4. Tech support should be able to help with the extra TV code and the audio issue.
I hope everything works well for you.

Robert,
What a great link, thanks! It had all the codes I needed to set up my *D remote.
I am disappointed that *D doesn't, by default, hide the channels to which you aren't subscribed. That's automatic with *E. I created a Favorites list called 'Subscribed' and only added the channels in the Choice Package as well as MLB EI to it. Is that the best way to do it?
Does anyone know if there is a CURRENT list online that shows the channel lineups in numerical order? All I could find was alphabetical lists and I fear that I may have missed a few channels.
Also, when I push the 'GUIDE' button, it shows me options like all channels, movies, etc. What I am used to is pushing GUIDE and seeing the channels in my lineup or in this case, the ones in my subscribed favorites list. Is there a way to see those in the guide or do I have to see all the channels?
Thanks again, y'all!

They want to, believe me. But certain older receivers choke on the enhanced guide data stream to support that so they have to get those older receivers fixed first.

I've seen some around the net. You'll probably find one via google.

That's the way the DirecTV GUI works unfortunately. On the HR20 there is a "backdoor" code to activate just one press of the guide button to go directly into the guide but only on the HR20 right now.

Sorry, couldn't find a programming guide in numerical order. That used to be the way they listed the PDF, but looks like they changed the format.
As for the guide button, unfortunately, that is currently the way the R15 works. However, the HR20 (the HD-DVR) recently got a software update that has a backdoor that allows for modifying the guide button behavior to show all channels on the first button press, then the categories on the second push. Some of these options are supposed to filter down to the R15 eventually.

The only numerical order list that I have found so far is the one they recently began putting in the Access D* magazine. The magazine is D*'s TV guide.

Darn, I had hoped one of you had an online link. I did an extensive Google search before my original post and the most recent numerical list I could find was from 2005.
Thanks to other who responded about the Guide and the option to only display channels that you get. I must say that i am very surprised as we have had this on *E for years. It's funny how you get used to things being a certain way...

There is a Wikipedia article with all DIRECTV channels here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_DirecTV_channels). It's in numerical order,

That's a great link but how do I know which ones are included in the "Choice" package? I don't see any legend for that chart, do you?

Thanks, Dave, but that's still in alphabetical order, not numerical. I used it but I am afraid I overlooked something....

Thanks, Dave! I didn't realize the forum allowed attachments. I now have my favorites list set up on both receivers and am getting used to the guide. I have to say the picture comes in fairly clear on my HD tv which is surprising as I have found that SD on HD, as a rule, isn't that sharp most of the time.
