Adding Receiver with no Commitment?

Is there anyway to add a receiver without extending the commitment?

I have a used DirecTiVo, could I sell it to my parents, would it extend their commitment??

If it would, could I add a non-dvr receiver with a 1 year (vs. the 2?)

A used receiver would be owned and that would not have a commitment. Your parents would have to get a new access card though.
