I was in Best Buy and they were playing video on the tv displays and it was The Weather Channel HD, it was not weather but some type of special.
Guess it will not be long before TWCHD starts.
I saw that too. I wonder what the source of it was?

If I recall correctly, the Weather Channel's new studios will not be ready until September.

I can't wait to be able to see the almost honest concern in Jim Cantore's face in HD.

Yes, and the channels shown on the DVD system make agreements with the company to show their content in stores. Since it's on their system, it makes me inclined to believe TWC-HD isn't far off.

Well seeing as the D* Press Release in January about the new HD Channels Specifically listed The Weather Channel as one of the new ones I would think it would be.

The weather on DVD - now there's a new concept!
Years ago, I set up video displays in semi-public venues. One of my test tapes
had a segment of a local news feed that happened to be recorded during a
winter snowstorm. Passers-by watching me set up my gear during hot weather
months always seemed befuddled by a snow report in the midst of a heat wave.
Some would actually come up to me and ask 'where was it snowing?'.
Some of the box stores use DVD feeds for their HDTVs...Circuit City, Best Buy. If you go there a few times, you'll wonder why the exam same programming is always on.
Then there are stores like Sears, WalMart, Target, etc. that sell HDTVs yet use SD programming. No wonder people go there, see the PQ and say, "geez, why is everyone all hyped up over HD? It doesn't look that good." Of course not, they are feeding these TVs with SD programming and it looks like crap. You'd think if Sears, Target, etc. actually wanted to sell HDTVs, they'd at least pipe in HD programming that highlights the product's PQ.
And yeah, "The Weather Channel HD"..there's an HD channel I am really waiting for. C'mon! I want more HD sports (NHL and MLB) on D*!!!!

The local BestBuy (Magnolia) here in Costa Mesa uses a D-VHS system and some canned tapes they were given. I didn't even know you could buy any D-VHS still. They wanted to switch to a BluRay or HD-DVD, but nothing like the travelogue type stuff was out at the time I talked to them.

All D-VHS is is a VCR that records HD signals. They were the first thing that came out that allowed you to record an HD signal. Only OTA I think. Expensive and tape based, so very few were out there AFAIK.

HD-VHS...This is true! Many companies have used this rather "cheap" medium for HD storage...it's MUCH less expensive than DVCAM or 24p tape...(and HD DVDs were not yet a reailty when it was developed). I recall doing a roll-out of sizzle reels for C*'s HD offerings to be played at their customer service centers which were mass-duplicated in this format. Drop-outs began to occur fairly quickly...good thing they printed so many of them!
Kristina Abernathy in HD....hmmmmmm
That's about the only reason to watch it in HD.

Hey guys, I work at a Best Buy store and this is the second time we have had a TWC HD demo up on our monthly feed. Our feed are sent to our store via satellite and then store on somewhat of an HD-DVR in our communications room for 15 to 30 days depending on when Best Buy Corp. decides to change them out. And for anyone wondering the specs of our feed when you go into the store, it is a 1080i feed either fed through coax or component to each one of our sets. None of the stores i know of yet are using HDMI for their feeds.
