Dish Pak - where's the deal?

Saw this Dish ad in my local newspaper:

DISH PAK: Includes AT50, Starz! Super Pak, and locals - $39.99/mo

If you purchased each of the items of the Dish Pak seperately:
AT50 - $21.99/mo
Starz! Super Pak - $11.99/mo
Locals - $5.99/mo
TOTAL: $39.97/mo

There's no "deal" with the Dish Pak. They're not giving potential new subs any reason to subscribe to Dish Network. What happened to Dish's GOOD promotions?

How is it all that more convenient to say "I want this package' than to say I want these 3" Poor marketing.

Remember the target audience -- the relatively unsophisticated cable TV consumer. That goofy little Dish package provides (a) basic cable networks, (b) all locals, and (c) a whole mess of movie channels, all for less than $40. That probably compares favorably with a lot of non-digital cable packages.

The target audience isn't going to spend a lot of time navigating the menus of options. Once they've got the equipment, Dish has a chance to upsell them to AT100, AT150, the other pay channels, pay-per-view, the whole revenue-enhancing deal. Meanwhile, it's brain-dead simple to compare to a 36-channel analog system and order it with one phrase.

IIRC, I remember reading here a while ago that this is a promo rather then a permanent set up. Can anyone verify it or deny? Thanks
