Ok I have a question about my account. Currently I own a house and have a roomate. Before I bought my house my roomate had directv in his name so we figured jsut use the moving option to set it up at my house. 5 years later he decided that he is getting his own place and is done with directv. I still want to keep it. SO what should I do should I try to have them transfer it into my name. and keep my equipment ( 3 LNB dish, 2 D10-300, Series 1 direct tivo, and samsunh HD box). The yearly commitment has been met about 2 years ago. Should I just have him cancle and call up as a new customer and have them give me all new equipment. Im interested in the 5lnb dish since Raleigh has LIL's and i also would like the HD DVR. In the end I need 1 SD box, 1 HD box, and 1 DVR. Right now im leaning toward calling as a new customer but figured i ask what my options were.

Thanks

Welcome to the forums, Corey! :welcome_s

Call the CSR. Ask them what kind of deals you are eligble for if you rename the account (I'm fairly sure they can do that, the have between my daughter and I before.) Tell them the current offer for new customers, and ask how close can they help you.

If your bills have been paid on time, programming level greater than the lowest level, and you talk very charmingly, you have a good chance at some nice discounts. Who knows if it will be a new account or an old, but you should be able to do well.

Cheers,
Tom

Hell, call D* and tell them you are thinking of moving to D* from cable or E* and want to know what their best deal is to 'pull you in' as a new customer. Thats the way to get the best deal.

You are not supposed to be able to change the name on the account for that reason. Does it happen? Yes, but not supposed to. Your best option would be to call in as a new customer and get the new customer promotion. Then if you would like to bring over 1 of the receivers such as the Tivo, then call in get an access card for used equipment.

Just a update... I called them and they said they could change my name BUT it will still be tied to all of my roomates info such as SSN and all of that... What's the point of that. I dont' want my name tied to his info anymore than he wants mine tied to his info. So then they started talking about just sign up as a new customer get new access cards and then have him cancel his service. Whats the point of that my equipment is dated so i just decided to sign up as a new cust get all new MPG4 equipment and i will be good. Problem was everytime i called them they recognized my phone # as already a customer so i never had the option of signing up. I endeded up just signing up online and they are coming out Saturday to install the 5 lnb dish and give me my updated recievers. Now another question is it best to sell old equipment with the access card... what kind of info is on that. I mean the new user will need a new one anyway so im leaning toward no.

Sell the old equipment. You can sell it either way, with or without the cards, DIRECTV will almost certainly require new cards for each unit that gets activated anyway. And require the old cards sent to DIRECTV to see if there is any PPV charges to be charged back to your roommates account.
