Yesterday I finally swapped out my 2 HR10-250s from 2 HR20-700s. Had to get my Mets in HD this year, so took the plunge. Got up and running pretty quickly because the interface is nearly identical to the R15 I've had for a bit now. However, something about it is just a bit better than the R15. Might be the speed or the graphics, I don't know, but it seems more user friendly. The R15 only does one thing better, which is that it displays shows it won't record in the todo list. I know others have mentioned this aspect of the HR20, but it is odd that it isn't included when there is a model for how it can be done on the R15.

So far I like it in comparison to my old HD Tivos. Much faster and the ease of creating new SLs is definitely a plus when converting over and the capacity meter is cool. I got the backlit RF remote which is great for night viewing and is also great for watching the living room projector from the kitchen and controlling the box through the wall. I for one actually kind of like the 30 sec. slip over the 30 sec. skip of the Tivo. With the Tivo, I frequently found myself overshooting the beginning of show after a commercial break, then going back too far. The 30 sec. slip actually made skipping commericals and backing up less of a guessing affair. I could also see where slip is preferable in viewing sports. It would be really interesting to put a Tivo and HR20 side-by-side with the same show and time how long it takes users to skip past the same commercial breaks. I think the Tivo would win, but the difference might be much less than I expected. We'll see how I feel about losing dual buffers. I know I am not thrilled with how quick menus change their content according to what screen you happen to be in at the time. Makes things, like how to change the defaults for the quick record button, hard to find.

Anyway, so far I'm in my honeymoon period and the machines haven't misbehaved. Hope it continues. Can't wait to get my first CE announcement from Earl!

Welcome to the world of the HR20. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have and the CE's are fun. But, beware they can cause problems as they are just test.

Yeah, I know, but I don't mind living on the bleeding edge.

Neither do I. I actually enjoy it. Just to let you know when you do a CE visit chat.dbstalk.com. That is the chat room people go to during the download of CE's.

Generally speaking we keep that kind of talk in PMs and the Cutting Edge forum, guys. This forum is for people running the national release.
