I think that he has already researched the next best thing in set top boxes. He has to have doing so for at least the year the merger has been going on. I expect that the newest stuff will come out very soon. E* will just not switch any sat transponder (except on HDTV) for a while. This will allow natural churn to replace the recievers in most customers. Then I expect deals like the 8PSK module will be done. You will need a new box to access new enhanced services, they will offer the box at a reduced price for one year programming prepayment.

He'll still use the merger as an excuse for the next serveral months to a year to explain why ther are no more channels added, LIL cities added, HDTV added, and the reason your bill goes UP. It's gonna be "I told ya so". "Without the merger, look how the subscribers get screwed".
