My sister is a new subscriber and she is having her system installed next week.

The Dish installation support people declined to provide her with the 2nd dish (with install) since she's not getting the Locals in Los Angeles.

I understand Dish is only obligated to provide the 2nd dish for free for the independent locals in LA.

What if she needs it for the Chinese programming on the side satellite?

We have a spare Directv dish that we can use for that purpose but how do we get it installed at the same time as the Dish 500?

Just get Locals for a while. At 5.99 for a few months or even a year it would be cheaper.

Remember that the only reason we're getting a second dish for free is because of the, uh, interesting way Dish is supplying the non-network locals. The FCC and the NAB hate this system, so it's always possible that Dish will shuffle its channels to manage with only a single dish.

Which is a longwinded way of saying, jump on the free dish offer while you can. $5.99 for one month of locals plus $5 to cancel them is a very cheap price for a second dish installed for free!
