I have 2 Series 2 TIVOs. My HDVR2 is collecting dust, and my R10 is active.
I just got rid of my phone service and need to disable the dial out. Can someone point me to a thread or resource with the quickest and easiest method to do this on either unit?
Thanks!

Just disconnect the phone cord. You just won't be able to order PPV movies with your remote (use DirecTV's Web site instead).

I know - I want to disable the call out attempt so I don't have to deal with the nag screen.

Then you'll have to hack your Tivo. Check out the "zipper" information in the Tivo Underground Forum at http://www.tivocommunity.com.

Yes- Actually I was reading up on Zipper over there before I posted this question. I was hoping there was an "easier" hack out there then building out a whole new drive. I'm pretty sure I used those zipper tools to build the drive that is in the HDVR2 right now, but I think I used a non-hacked image (its been awhile).
I was hoping for one of those little "nifty" key press sequences or something of the like to avoid taking that thing apart and spending an afternoon on it.
Apparently there is nothing like that - oh well. Thanks!

Nope, no easier way. Just remember to delete those "reminder" messages regulary. Folks have reported that if too many build up then your DVR can hang up when you try to access the Messages. Once that happens there's no easy way to delete them.

The R10 would require a PROM mod so unless you are prepared to do some major surgery you're better off just unplugging the phone line and living with the nag messages. Depending on how many extra features you want to install on your HDVR2, you could simply get away with running the initial Zipper installation on the drive which installs the killhdinitrd'd kernel, installs and configures the necessary networking components, and sets up the fakecall hack. It probably takes all of about 5 minutes or less to perform. The rest of the hacks are set up using the enhancement script via a telnet connection. I believe cron is set up as part of the enhancements script which would be nice to have since it probably schedules fakecall to run at regular intervals. Otherwise, you'd need to reboot the DTivo regularly to keep the fakecall hack active.
