This has happened to me before and really ticks me off. Watching this morning a dvr (HR20) of Oakland-Yanks game last night. This was on a local cahnnel, as NONE of the A;s games are EVER on Extra Innings which ticks me off royally too, but thats another story.

The schedule for the local says its on from 7 to 10PM, the game went into extra innings and at 10PM, it stops recording in the top of the 9th inning, so I miss 2+ innings and an exciting win by my team.

I know the answer is to schedule torecord the shows afterward, but I seem to have a hard time remembering that.

The question I have for you more informed people about how this stuff works is, doesn't the dvr KNOW what is on, what is being broadcast? Surely they can progam some smarts into it that says, if the show has not changed to the scheduled show at 10pm to keep recording.

In this day of such brilliant high tech stuff, it seems this should be a fairly easy thing to accomplish for the programmers, but I don't really know enough to be that sure. Is this feasabilie for it to have that kind of smarts? AARRGGH!!!!!

Extra Innings games are just the opposite! THey allow TOO much time, so you end up having to cancel recordings that you know will not interfere, but because EI allows 6 hours for a game or more, you have no choice.

Seems there s/b a reasonable intelligent programming solution to this stuff.

The DVR records by whats on the guide. If the guide would change it would be able to it. But since that is not going to happen it will stop recording when the show/game ends on the guide. After you set the game to record go into your to do list and click on the game and set it to record for a extra hour or two. That will take care of the problem.

Go A's! :D

Somehow we need to figure out a wa to get OTA from San Jose and KICU 36. I'm down in the pit of Cali and I understand not being able to see the A's.

Yes this is a real screw job for people in our area, we get blacked out because Channel 36 is considered our area , yet D* does NOT give us 36, so we are SOL. I have bitched about this to some of the D* agents, but its like taking to a brck wall. Its a real screw job. The first year I had D* I actually also subscribed to basic comcast just so I could get channel 36!

Its really quite unfair, and I wish someone in MLB or D* would realize it and do something about it. But I also wish I could flap my arms and fly.

Does this work? I thought I had read several times over the months that this function is problematical or something.?

I've talked to both parties as well at different times about the subject and its just a pile of garbage on both sides. MLB says one thing, D*/E* says another and so on.

But we can get The Giants games all friggin SEASON! :(

Yeah, I know, the giants. Big whup. LOL The simplest answer would be for D* to give us 36, but I suppose there is some stupid idiotic law that prohibits that? They tell us 36 is not in our local area, yet they blackout games on EI that are on that channel. Real sensible eh?

Some people have had problems with it. I have not had a problem with it at all. So try it and see what happens.

Exactly !!! Its not in your local DMA yada yada yada ... How about we call KICU and ask them to start becoming a SuperStation like WGN :)

I program my football team, my college baseketball team and my baseball team's games in manually, which is a hassel in itself, but I haven't found a better way to do it on the HR20.

Using my method, when I set up the record, I just extend the time on every game as part of the programming. I've been doing it since I've had the HR20, which I think has been since October or November. Out of maybe 50 extended recordings, I've only had one not work.

So I'd say it's worth extending your recordings rather than hope the games don't go past the guide time.

A win by "my team".

I love how sports empowers people to feel like they've won something when they are completely uninvolved and detached from the entire event, yet it makes them feel part of a "winning" team. It's all in people's heads. I love a guy who says I "root" for the Yankees. Ok guy, you're a "winner" and I'm a "loser" because I root for the Mets.

Here in Ohio we see all kinds of A's games :)

Now if I could ever see Detroit or Cleveland I would be happy. I am in an area where Detroit, Cleveland and Cincinnati are all my "local" teams. BUT DirecTv only allows FSN Cinci/Ohio as our local which means every Detroit and Cleveland game is blacked out.

I am a Reds fan but I do enjoy watching Detroit and Cleveland from time to time.

The whole blackout issue is a mess. It could be fixed tomorrow but it won't be.

Yes I wish I knew what they thought they were accomplishing with it. If you are planning to go to a game at the stadium, its not like you are going to say, oh lets not, its on tv. You have plans with friends, its an outing etc.

I don't get it, and all it does is alienate people against MLB IMO And it makes me wonder why I spend the money for Extra Innings when all I ever get is the same A's games I wuold get without it. It's fun to see other teams too, I enhoy that, but I expect if Oakland is in the east coast playing and its not on tv here, that it should be on EI, but it never is. For me that may be beause of above mentioned rip off of channel 36 who carry many A's games, but is some 70 miles south of where I live, and thus I do not get the channel,, but I DO get the blackout!

Totally unfair, I would say so. Poor planning I guess. Either give me the so called 'local' channel that is carrying the game, or give it to me on EI. Whats MLB's point of denying fans seeing games? It's beyond me.

Not getting channel 36 is really unfortunate. I'm in Oakland, so I do get it. Maybe you could "move" your service location...

MLB EI is definitely for watching out of market - not much use for watching your home team.

All of a sudden I see some potential value in VOD where I saw none before. Assuming they didn't charge you, if they threw a game up for download the day after it aired, I would think this problem would be solved.

Now if they wanted to charge me a couple bucks- they can go to....
