Hi all, quick question. I am having an HR20 installed on Friday (4/20), and I don't want 2 dishes. We get our locals from the Sat at 72.5 (Fort Smith, AR DMA#102).
I am having the new slimline installed on a storage building (very sturdy wood construction, I climbed around on the roof to cut a tree down so the dish could install there) , and only want to have the one dish. I can receive my locals OTA now (using my TV). Do I have to install the dish looking at 72.5? I Understand that I will not receive locals through the dish (no HD locals yet).

You do not have to have 72.5 but as you know you will not get locals. As far a HD locals when they become available, the will be 103 or 99 so the second dish would not be needed at that time. Eventually the sd locals from 72.5 may be moved over to one of the other sats such as 119.

Thanks for the reply! One other question. Our Fox and NBC station transmit from the same tower. The Fox (KFTA) station is 24-1 (in HD) and the NBC (KNWA) station is 24-2. They do this because the transmitter for KNWA is in NW Arkansas near the Missouri border (almost 100 miles from my location).
Will the HR20 receive sub-channels OTA? Since I can't receive NBC in HD, would I qualify for the national feed of NBC?

Yes, the HR20's OTA tuner will receive subchannels. 100-miles is a long stretch for OTA reception, though. You'll need a large antenna mounted outdoors as high as possible. Check out the resources at http://www.antennaweb.org.
You'll have to apply for a waiver to receive any national feeds. Check DirecTV's web site, or simply give them a call. But don't get your hopes up.

No definate answer. Call D* and request to submit a waiver.

I've tried to pick up KNWA direct from their transmitter, but with no luck. I can only receive the NBC station as a sub-channel of the local Fox affiliate (only 40 miles away)
It stinks not getting NBC in HD.
