The Retail Bridge:The full Opera web browser for Nintendo's Wii game console has been released in the U.S. The software, which allows users to access the internet right from their living rooms, is available as a free download at The Internet Channel (accessible from the menu screen of any internet-connected Wii).

"The Opera-powered internet Channel for Wii is about making the web easy to use for anyone, at any age," said Scott Hedrick, Opera Software's executive vice president of devices. "We received a lot of user feedback after the Christmas release of the original version, and based on that feedback we have created a browser that is clean, intuitive and made for viewing on the TV. Working with Nintendo has been great education for us as browser makers, and has helped us to make a product that matches Wii's ability to reach across generations and bring enjoyment to all."

In addition to straight-up surfing, Nintendo's Internet Channel includes several features designed to streamline the internet-on-TV experience. Zoom, for instance, is available in both automatic and manual varieties, while a new always-on search tool simplifies basic navigation. The software is controlled by the Wii remote -- i.e. B Button + Left Arrow = Search; B Button + Up Arrow = Reload.

The software will be available as a free download until June 30, 2007. TheRetailBridge (http://www.thebridgemediagroup.com/) - used with permission
