View Full Version : How long is your History - and when does it purge, if ever?
My HR20 history is 169 items, dating back to 3/7/2007 11:52am when I activated my HR20 and the installer canceled the first software downloaded. The next item shows the download succeeded at 12:12pm, followed by pages and pages of all of the canceled/deleted recordings. In the middle of that is the only other mention of a software download, 4/3/2007 at 4:32am. (I know this was 0x145.)
So several questions about the history list:
1) Does the History ever clean up after itself and delete old entries, for example when it reaches some log limit (ex: 250 entries) or maybe when an entry reaches a certain age (ex: three months)?
2) Why are only natinonal software releases listed in the history? There was no mention of CE downloads, even though I've participated in all of them since 3/7.
3) Does or can the length of the history list have any negative impact on HR20 stability?
4) Why does History not report shows that were not recorded due to conflicts? If it records shows canceled in advance by the user, you'd think it would log shows not recorded due to conflicts.
5) Why does the log for "Software Downloaded" not record the version numbers (old version to new version), for troubleshooting purposes?
6) What's the longest history length (# of items) ever reported here at DBSTalk?
Note: If anyone wants to check it out, one way to get to History is Menu > Help & Settings > Scheduler > History. Another way is List > Yellow > Left > History
My history contains 311 items, with shows going back to Fri 3/9.
The last two items on the list are a 2/28 Software Download (the only one on the list), and an unknown event on 12/31 @ 6:00p

My one box has a history count in the 900's...
It does start to purge, but not sure where... it hasn't ever hit 1,000

Thanks folks, and wow! Up to a 1000 items in history?! Who would ever need to go THAT far back?
Can anyone answer any of the other questions I had about the history screen, though? My curiosity is still not satisfied! :D

Mines at 415 right now. Not that that helps. I very rarely ever look at the history. If it went back 2 weeks, that would be sufficient for me.

I was looking at my to do list and history and I noticed on the screen with the # of items in the to do list and history that the number in history stops at 1000. It has been at 1000 all night and I have recorded and watched 4 shows tonight.
Anyone else notice this? Seems odd that the 1000 would be the highest number reachable? 999 maybe but 1000?

I recall Earl or somebody posting a few weeks ago about this limit being 1000. Probably not really meaningful from a software programmers point of view. I'm actually surprised they set it so high.

Mine hit 1000 yesterday, I recorded and watched 4 more shows but no increase. Looks like 1000 is the limit. The first item is Oct 11, 2006 when I first replaced the box. I would also like to know if it ever gets purged? Does not look like it as of now.

Litz, i'm kinda surprised my 1st history entry is oct 11 2006 when i 1st got the box and less than a year later i'm at the lmit. Not a big deal just kinda interesting to see how much stuff you record. I also figured if there was a limit it would stop before 4 digits otherwise you could go to 9999.

I can't even comprehend how long it would take for me to record 1000 shows. I figure I average about 12 recordings per week, which means it would take over 18 months for me to reach 1000. And since the HR-20 has been out for about half of that amount of time, that means you guys at the 1000 mark are recording at least 25 things a week. Where do you find the time? I have trouble keeping up with the 12 or so.

It doesn't "purge" but I beleive it wil scroll delete.
As I most certainly would have eclipsed 1,000 by now (since early august) on the one system... and I am hovering around 900 at this point.

So merged. :)
The HR20 with the new disk has 88 items, while the regular HR20s are showing in the 250 range.
Since the topic is before us, can anyone imagine scrolling thru 1000 items, 5 at a time, with animations on (or even off) as slow as the UI tends to be? But I will give a pass for this at the moment, there are bigger steaks to grill.
Cheers,
Tom
I decided to take a look at my history after reading this thread. I noticed that automatic software downloads are listed in history, but forced downloads (02468) are NOT listed in history (at least on my HR20).

It's easy to get to 1000 when your wife records "Days of Our Lives" everyday and you have kids that record all that kid stuff. Not to mention all the cancelled recordings we had early in the software release process.

I have animations off and it took me about 5 minutes to scroll through.
By the way how do you put multiple quotes in a post so I don't have 3 posts in a row like this?

The easy way is the small "quote+" button. If you click on that for the first couple items you want to quote, then hit the large regular "quote" button on the last item you want to quote it will bring up the advanced reply with the quotes ready for you to respond to.

I wish there was a way to delete this history (only) without doing a total reset. Is this something others would be interested in?
