View Full Version : Why would NESN HD be blacked out in CT on ch 95?
In Central Connnecticut, NESN is one of my RSNs along with YES, SNY and FSNE.
Channel 95 was supposed to be carrying the Red Sox-Blue Jays in HD on Tuesday night, but a message said it was not available in my area, a typical blackout message. If a Yankees game (YES-HD) is carried on 95 I always get it.
Is NESN-HD sent on the Boston spotbeam on channel 95 too, or is this something I should be able to call D* and fix?

95 is a national channel. Did you see the game on NESN SD?

Weird stuff going on these days with blackouts. I'm in the Tampa area, and this year when D* shows a feed from one of our RSNs on 95 I am blacked out on that channel...but of course I get the same game on 96 in MPEG4.
Sounds like the same thing is happening to you...except you get screwed because you aren't yet able to get NESN-HD in CT (even though you're in NESN territory). But then again, you're getting the YES games on 95, and you're in that territory as well.
No reason you should have been blacked out from a NESN feed on 95.

You would be blacked out *if* the feed used on 95 was *not* from NESN but from the "other" RSN. Not sure this was the issue here or not.

It was the NESN feed.

Wasn't the issue in this case.

Put your guide in ALL CHANNELS. As of last night I had SNY in HD. That's right I had two channel 625's again and the second was HD.

I'll check that out, although I'd rather watch the Sox in SD than the Mets in HD. :D

As long as you're a fan it doesnt' matter who your team is.
That is, until we actually play against each other...then the gloves are off :box:
I acutally like 2 teams....the Mets and whoever is playing the Yankees.

What error message did you have?
I have a 721 error on 94, 95, 730 and 731 even though I have EI/Superfan, I am getting no HD baseball. After spending an hour on the phone in which they had me reboot my box twice, they basically told me the games "might" be blacked out because it was on ESPH-ND last night, I told her that was wrong because it wasn't the 727 blackout message, it was the 721 "you have not purchased this channel message" and they know I have. It happened Tuesday night and they were able to fix it, last night they couldn't. I ended up watching the game on the big screen on 73 (ESPN-HD) with my 26" tv next to it on 623 (NESN) which did come through. She mentioned a possible blackout, I said that I am in Texas and not in the Red Sox/Yankees home territory and am well versed in the blackout crap.
Also, the audio is crap on 667 for the Rangers game, this is getting very old very quickly.

I was watching my RSN Detroit Tiger game in HD on 95 today and in the 8th inning the screen went black and I got the 721 error.
I called D* and nothing they did on their end fixed it and they told me to do a rbr. I still have not done the rbr since I have been recording stuff all day so I am not sure if it will fix my problem yet.
As far as the 721 error, I signed up for the EI/SuperFan package on D* web site about 2 weeks ago.
When I got a HR20 installed Friday, I tried 730 just to check I could still receive Superfan.
When I got the 721 error, I called D* and they said they had to add Superfan to my account again before the channel was viewable.

Looks like we share one common team! LMAO!
I now have YESHD and SNYHD on 622 and 625 respectively. There were two listings for each in the channel list. Still only one listing for NESN on 623 though.
On Friday night, channel 95 was showing the YESHD feed too. Kind of a Catch-22. Watch the game in HD and listen to the Yankees announcers or watch in SD and listen to the Sox announcers.
Friday night's game was definitely the YES-HD feed on 95 so that's why you got blacked out. Being a Sox fan, it was a real Catch-22...either get the better PQ on YES but have to listen to Michael Kay or get the lesser PQ and annoying ESPN graphics but have "neutral" announcers. Had to go with ESPN but I swtiched back to hear Kay crying about Rivera. Good stuff.

Well, my HD is finally working. I spent another hour on the phone the next night and they didn't resolve anything at that time but she did talk to her supervisor and said that it should not be that way and he would look into the problem. The next night it was working. So hopefully it is fixed now and will still be working for the next Sox-Yanks series this weekend.

Any idea which CSR or soop you talked to? I wish they could fix mine.
This SUCKS. :nono2:

Until 2 nights ago I had YESH, SNYH, but no NESNH. Now, I find NESNH has entered the guide. It's seems the RSN's are now HD.

Finally! Now all is right in the world.

I live in North Haven, and just checked I don't have NESNHD, I even tried to reboot....
Anything else I might need to do to get it to show up, when you guys said we had YES-HD and SNY-HD, I went into my favs and they were there, no such luck with NESN-HD (the one my wife and I really want)
Any other CT Residents to chime in on this new development?

I apologize, I miss read my guide and the NESN channel. It's still only SNYH & YESH here in Norwich.
Sorry,

Last night I had YESH and SNYH in my guide (on two receivers, H20 and HR20) and was able to watch the Mets game on 625H in HD (but not SD -- ch 625 had the 721 error). The Yankee game had the as expected 721 error on both SD and HD. The odd thing is, I am in the NESN RSN (Western Mass). I will gladly give up my SNYH if I can get NESNH). I want my NESN HD !!!
Oh well, back to the drawing board. Keep emailing and calling DirecTV people. I do so weekly regarding NESN-HD and WTNH-HD. Even if you get the same canned response I always do, just keep nagging them.

OT: For WTNH-HD, I also complain to LIN TV the parent company. Until a few weeks ago, none of their HD stations were carried by anyone. They reached some agreement with a cable provider but still no DBS. They want an all or nothing pay us big bucks deal. Not really fair for those of us who can't get the OTA signal. Right now the only one I can get is CPTV.

I live in Colchester and started getting the YES and SNY HD the other day as well. I called and asked 'why not NESN' and the CSR (2nd one I got; first one was dumber than usual) said that NESN showed as 'updating' for our area. So maybe it will be in before the season is out.
Are YES and SNY on spotbeams? If so, then it makes no sense that I can't get NESNHD, as I'm closer to Boston than NY.

Appreciate the good news, here is to hoping, but not soon enough for tonight :-(
It'll be the YES-HD broadcast on mute and the other TV set to NESN with the volume cranked to hear the Rem Dog.

Tonight is a channel 59 game, does YES carry those?
I don't know. Channel 59 is one of the worst channels as far as clarity.
It'll probably be on channel 95. If not then back to NESN SD.

I live about 30 miles west of Boston and NESN is my only RSN. I started receiving NESN-HD as soon as they announced it during last season. I see two channel 623 in my guide (it used to say "NESN" and "hd") and it has never been blacked out. I'm pretty sure this is MPEG-4, just like the local networks. As long as you receive your locals in HD, you should have access to 623 in HD. Good luck - this weekend should be a good series to see on NESN-HD - except for FOX-HD on Saturday.

That's a great idea.
Just out of curiosity, I switched on WTIC radio Sunday and their play-by-play was actually BEHIND DirecTV by about 10 seconds. In the past DirecTV's audio was always well behind the radio.
