Good news for Sky Angel subscribers...EchoStar has agreed to add 3ABN back to the lineup. Plus, it'll be available to any Dish Network subscriber on 61.5 satellite.

Really? That is cool ... when is this expected to happen?

(Original thread title "3ABN coming back to Sky Angel" was edited after this message was first posted)
This is very misleading.

1) 3ABN will not be added to Sky Angel at least there are no press releases, uplink activity, faxes not any other corroberation other than the same misleading post on another site.

2) The rumor confirmed by another uncorroberated source on the same "other site" says that 3ABN is coming to DISH NETWORK within the next 3 weeks. NOT Sky Angel... DISH NETWORK.

3) IF and I mean IF this rumor is correct, 3ABN will be a Public Interest channel at the 61.5° location and available for free to any Dish or Sky Angel subscriber on the Public Interest package. It is unknown if the channel will be mirrored at 148° or 129° at this point IF the rumor is true. :)

It would sure be nice if Sky Angel could resume Spirit as a full time channel. Speaking of Spirit that shares time with KTV on 9703, does anyone else notice that when you watch Spirit you only hear the audio in the right channel? At least for me it appears to only be the right side.

All of the other Sky Angel channels with audio sound like their normal, stereo self. This must be an internal Sky Angel problem with their feed/uplink?

If 3ABN is being added to E* then it's going on a different transponder (i.e. not on the 2 SA transponders 25 & 32).

You may want to call SA about the audio problems with Spirit programing on KTV. I havn't tuned in lately to confirm the problem, however if other programs so not share the audio problem, it's an issue SA has to address from their end.

2) The rumor confirmed by another uncorroberated source on the same "other site" says that 3ABN is coming to DISH NETWORK within the next 3 weeks. NOT Sky Angel... DISH NETWORK.That would make more sense.

Thanks Tony.

And a quick reminder that if you really want 3ABN, you can get it FTA with a Ku-band dish pointed at AMC4.

I have had some correspondence with some people who know about these things and no one knows (or admits to knowing) anything about this at all. It doesn't rule this out, but IMHO makes this an unsubsctanciated rumor. I hope I am wrong. :)

unsubsctanciated => unsubstantiated

1. not substantiated; unproved or unverified: unsubstantiated allegations.
2. being without form or substance.

Not going to call it a $100 word, but m-w.com wants you to pay for the definition. So call it a $29.95 annual or $4.95 per month word - or take the Dictionary.com definition quoted above. :)

PS: Made perfect sense to me!

Anyway, you got it James. It's worth more points in scrabble with a C too! :D

Sorry if I didn't put this up EXACTLY as you thought it should be.:( 3ABN announced last friday that it had finalized talks with Echostar to put it back on Sky Angel, same channel, 9710. And that Echostar would add it to the "public interest" channels as part of the basic package for ALL Dish subscribers. 3ABN announced it would take several weeks to get back on the air on the 61.5 satellite. If you want to take exception to this post, why not contact 3ABN directly, as this was announced by Primo Moses, who is I think the Broadcast director at 3ABN with the President of the company present.

This is very misleading.

If you can point to this announcement on http://www.3abn.org/ or another 3ABN source it would be appreciated. From what I have seen so far, it appears that 3ABN has a strong desire to become a Dish Network Public Interest channel but have seen no trace of an uplink change or other sign that their request has been granted.

It is also unlikely that E* would place the channel at 9710, which is in a range set aside for Sky Angel's channels. Not impossible, but E* has their own PI range and could even place 3ABN in the 260's with other religious broadcasters. Perhaps it will be mirrored at 9710, but that would be a first of it's kind arrangement. This all seems like wishful thinking ... I hope the channel arrives and, for the sake of SA customers, is mirrored at 9710 ... but the signs don't seem to be pointing that way.

Please provide some 3ABN link to this so we have more information to go on. Thanks.

Well, James; the announcement was done "live" on 3ABN, not on their web site. We get 3ABN on AMC4, as well as having the lifetime subscription on Sky Angel. I watched it with my own 2 peepers, not having someone tell me about it. They were specific about the channel, as well as it going 'back' to Sky Angel, not just Dish Network available. I have an audio recording of it, I can email it to you so you can verify or host it, but I can't. Ok, I think I've got it, it's a video of the announcement from last friday. The 2 people on camera are Moses Primo and Danny Shelton(president of 3ABN)

Spirit's Website has announced that they will resume 24/7 operations on Sky Angel May 2nd on Channel 9717 (apparently replacing Familyland). You can visit Spirit Television's website at spirit-television .com if you want to back up the claim (plus, you can watch it online FREE 24/7).

However, Angel One is currently at 262 and Mirrored at 9701.

However, Angel One is currently at 262 and Mirrored at 9701.A different kind of mirror.

262 is a "free" channel hosted on 119° ... it is one of E*'s PI channels and being free a Sky Angel subscriber with a 119° dish would also be able to see 262.

9701 is a separate uplink hosted on 61.5° that is ONLY available to SkyAngel subscribers. It is not a "free" channel available to E* subs.

It is likely that E* is using the same source for both channels, but they are not the typical mirror (normally one channel on the same channel from two satellites or one channel on the same satellite that shows up on two numbers).

What they really need is their own uplink center.

Very true. Last I heard (about a year ago) SkyAngel was hiring staff to run an uplink. I have not heard any more since then.

Well... Okay but these peoplle had NO CVLEW what hey were talking about!!! I count no less than 30 errors of fact in the statement transcribed below. But okay. I would just love to see a real press release or other corroberating announcement before I really believe this will happen as stated.

But even THEY say they are not going to be on Sky Angel which was my first bone of contention with the thread title. They say clearly that they are going to be on Dish Network and NOT Sky Angel as the thread title implies. These are two separate and independent companies!

Here is a transcription of the clip linked above:
--------------------------------

[guy#1] There's Two different announcements, I think. But I want you to address,... there have been a lot of people...we were on Sky Angel for a number of years..then we went off Sky Angel. Now Sky Angel... it's not their own satellite as I understand this. It's Dish Network so, I don't know, 50,000 people or how many we know of Adventist purchased this Dish Network System to get Sky Angel Network. When they had Satellite Failurre, they never put us back on. Some folks said... I read some advertisements that said that 3ABN will never be back on this satellite or back on whatever again. But I'm hoping you can tell me that's not true and you got good news for me tonight. I got little bits and peices, but I want you to straighten us out on this.

[guy 2]Well actually I do. I'm ver excited about this news. It was just a today thing. I was talking to the leaders of [echostar] which is the company that own the satellite and Dish Network and they said, "Look, you've been telling every month that it's next month and we're gonna meet"... there were some issues.

[guy 1 interrupting and overlapping] They've been working for quite a few months

[quy 2 overlapping] Yah, --indistict--

[guy 1 never stopping] I've been wanting to announce it for weeks and weeks but I haven't been able to.

[guy 2] Actually, April has been a year that ah when we had the satellite failure.. I mean transpoinder failure that we were off. I talked to them just this morning, I was in Las Vegas and they said, "Yeah. Last meeting we had, it was approved that you can go back on the satellite. And the great thing is that we are going to arrange that you'll be able to use the same channel that you were so that the people that used to tune in on that same channel"

[guy 1] Really?

[Guy 2] It's just a virtual channel, or what they call it: a virtual channel. But the beauty of it

[guy 1 interrupting] You mean like it was 9750 or something like that?

[guy 2]97 uh.. 1910. 1910.

[guy 1] 1910? so that will the same channel.

[guy 2] Yeah. But the beauty of that is that it's not only gonna be for the Sky Angel viewer. It's on a slot that is called "Public Interest". And it is on the basic channels. So anybody that has Sky Angel Satellite Dish on the 61.5° satellite, they will be able to receive 3ABN (cannot hear the rest of the sentense because...)

[guy 1 interrupts]
Okay. What about the ones who have the Dish Networ...or, I'm sorry, the Sky Angel system, will they be able to get it too?

[guy 2] They also will be able to receive it.

[guy 1] It won't be on the Sky Angel but it's on that same satellite and it will be on the same channel that we were almost as though its the same. So, not only will the Sky Angel viewers once again get us, but all then other viewers now, its open to the public

[guy 3 off camera] Free to air!

[guy 2] So the blessing is bigger than what we had only with Sky Angel. It's not Free to Air, so-to-speak, because you still have to subscribe for a package, the basic package. So if you have a satellite dish that is a Dish Network that is pointing at 61.5° satellite if you are a Sky Angel package; or if you have any other package like the RBTI, or some of the "ethnical" programs that you watch on that satellite, tune in in just a few weeks. It's going to take a few weeks to get the technical arranged and especially to be able to put it back on the same channel that we were. So give us maybe about 3 weeks and we will be able to go back on the same channel that we were and we'll be able to watch. Not only the Sky Angel viewers, but any viewer that is on 61.5 sattellite.

[guy 1] Okay, now here is what they say. They normally say when I grew up my dad would always say... and I remember my grampa Shelton sayng that... he would say: "Bad news travels round the world before good news even gets its boots on." Now what I want to do... this is good news ... I want to see it travel around the world.

[All--including some people we havent heard from] - Amen --
---------------
herrumph, herrumph herrump...
[Mel Brooks] I didn't get a "herrumph out of that guy.
[Harvy Korman] Give the Governor a "herrumph!"
[Guy]"Herrumph"
---------------------------

[Guy 1] This is good news so all of you that have friends and you have people in your church, you got people that's on your e-mail list, where ever that aren't watching cause we're not on the Sky Angel and they have the Sky Angel system. Tell them that in a few weeks we will be back. 3ABN ... What's the guy said "I'll be back". We're back.
--------------------------------------

See ya
Tony

Thanks for the transcript. The earlier mentions made it sound more like wishful thinking (please contact E* and get this done). The video is pretty confident ...
Adventists are not name it claim it, are they? :)

There's a first time for everything. I suppose for 3ABN getting their old channel number back would be best for the SkyAngel subs they once served ... 264 would be a decent channel as well. It is cleaner to keep the 9700's "SkyAngel only" but time will tell.

I called Familyland last night as soon as I saw Spirit take it's place. There is no mention of the departure from Sky Angel on either FL's or SA's websites (other than no evidence that they were ever on SA to begin with).

Echostar Uplink Activity today:9710 3ABN MOVED FROM Tp 32 on EchoStar 3 at 61.5w
TO Tp 10 on EchoStar 3 at 61.5w

9710 3ABN ADDED TO Tp 17 ConUS beam on EchoStar 5 at 129wIn simple words ...
The placemarker for 3ABN that has been pointing to SkyAngel's satellite space (TP32) is now pointing to Echostar's satellite space (TP3). A second placemarker has been added on another satellite (129°).

This is a BIG sign that the channel is actually coming to Echostar on channel 9710. Perhaps as early as tomorrow!

Well, as of today, 3ABN is back on Dish, and not just Sky Angel, but anyone with a dish pointed at 61.5 or 129 and a basic subscription.
