I would like to upgrade to HD, but don't fully understand what my options are.
I have very old dish network equipment and I have been a customer for about 8 years.
I currently have two recievers (model 1000's) running two TV's from a Dish 500.
I want to upgrade to a 622 and a 211 to run three tvs, an HD and SD from the 622 and an HD from the 211.
I currently have America's Top 100 with locals for $34.99 and an additional receiver access fee for $5.00, for a grand total of $39.99.
So the goal is to get the two new recievers and HD channels for the minimum monthly cost.
I doubt I would want to change from America's Top 100, but I would consider it if there is a better deal doing so.
I also would consider purchasing the 622 and 211 outright if it would save me monthly fees on the bill, at least if that would pay for it self in the next 3 or 4 years.
So basically what I am asking it is what should I expect to pay per month including all DVR fees, additional receiver fees, lease fees, programming fees etc and can the lease fees be waived if I purchase the recievers outright.
So the above is the first question.
The second question deals with actual equipment (dish/switches/diplexers etc). When I upgrade, I know the Dish 500 will not be adequate, so will they install a Dish 1000.2 or will they add an additional dish next to the Dish 500, I really would rather just have one dish.
Thanks.

I am in the same boat. I am a current Dish customer, and I want to upgrade to HD level service. I currently have TOP100 w/ 2 receivers. I only want one of them upgraded to HD. I was told by Dish that my Dish500 would need to be replaced as well. I think I was quoted like $180 for the new Dish+receiver and then an additional $20 per month for the HD tier of channels. Does this sound right???

In most cases, they replace your Dish 500 dish with a new one called Dish 1000.2 that receives signals from 110,119, and 129. Then can then replace your 525 dual tuner receiver with a 622.
TV1 output is in HD and TV2 output is SD and can feed your 2nd TV.
That's what I got and it is excellent provided you have a clear line of sight with no trees in the south-west.
I was a current customer and they charged me $149. Using their dish-it-up program they offere an incentive where you get all that money back via rebates. Your bill would be $10 less for 10 months, plus you get a one time $50 rebate.
Check with them to make sure it is still a valid promo but it should be.
The 622 makes all your regular non-HD channels show up better, too.

if you have model 1000 receivers, fair bet you've been with them quite a while. In which case you probably qualify for their best offer on dishinitup. This is going to be $149 for the 622, and $99 for the 211. So up front you'd pay $248 with credit card, you'd get $100 of that back in two seperate $50 mail in rebates.... so we're down to $148. Now upon adding the HD programming, you add $20 to your monthly bill, and you get $10 credits to offset that a bit for 10 months time. This will definitely be your cheapest option as opposed to purchasing it.
Dish recently changed the rules of dishinitup promotion, it used to be that you paid $6 for each leased HD receiver, since then it has been, you pay $6 for each HD receiver AFTER THE FIRST. This means that the monthly rate for purchased and leased has become the same... so it's definitely in your best interest to lease... also lets not forget how the late buyers of the 942 got shafted when the 622 came out
monthly rate:
AT100 w/locals: +34.99
HD Pack1: +20.00
Lease Rcvr Fee: +6.00
Dvr Fee: +5.98
HD UPGRADE: - 10.00
TOTAL 56.97
(add $5 if you cant connect a phone line to 622... )
And as for question two, they'll probably set you up with a dish 1000/1k2 with a dpptwin lnb, If you've got 1000 receivers I'm willing to bet you've got legacy equipment outside. They will have trouble scrounging up legacy switches so it will be easier for dish as well as the installer to setup you up with dpp equipment
