View Full Version : So, when do I *own* my HR20?
I mean, I paid $400 for it, with a one hundred dollar rebate. If I cancel, do I keep the box? Or do they refund some of it?

You don't ever own it.
If you cancel they have you send it back to them.

You will never "own" it... At least based on all information released to date.
Regarding leased receivers.
There may be a day (probably in about 2 years), where DirecTV won't want them back if you leave DirecTV or change out the box.
I have not heard of anyone receiving a refund (past the original 30 day period), if they leave DirecTV and have to return the leased equipment.

Whenever.
You can own it when? NEVER!
I was told that if you cancel your contract before 2 years I would have to pay something like $12 a month for each remaining month. I paid $300 for mine. This left me with the impression that I would own the HR20 after 2 years. Could just be that they may not want them back like Earl said.

Two different things:
The $12 a month, for the first 2 years... is for the programming contract/req
It is not a "rent 2 own" program for the HR20.

If you keep it, D* will charge you $500, which means you will have paid for the total (actual) cost of the HR20...$800. :)
