HD channel confusion!

Please correct me if I am wrong but I will only receive HD programming if I subscribe to that SD channel? I am newly subscribed to HDplus and I subsribe to Extra Innings (not Superfan)

And what is the difference between these channels and why I would not receive them:

94 MLBH
95 HD
96 HD
98 HD
730 BHD1
731 BHD2

I am located in the Seattle area.

Sorry for the question but I am very very new to the american satellite business and this has been very confusing for the past week or so.

Don't be embarrassed this is very very very confusing ...certainly most D* employees don't get it yet...

94 and 730 are the same but 730 won't be activated if it's not a baseball game (hockey or Basketball might show up on 94 sometimes)

95 and 731 are the same way ...

96 97 are for your local RSN's HD broadcasts ....

you will get everything on 96/97 and nothing on 730/731 (you need to buy Superfan --worth it IMHO) 94 and 95 you will see non-baseball if you subscribe ... games on Versus HD you will see games on NBATV you will not unless you sub to sports pack and/or NBA LP ....

Thanks. Coming from cdn satellite its quite confusing. I think its because of the Local and RSNs. I am beginning to kinda understand-thanks.
So with my ExtraInnings I basically will only see SD games. The only HD I will see is possibly my Local HD and Local RSN?

Superfan will get me MLB in HD?

1)you will see ESPN and Big FOX games as well in HD

2) yes it will ... plus you will get the Mix channel and strike zone 4 nights a week (Tues/Wed/Fri/Sat)

No, I subscribe to the Family Package (which I don't watch at all). I get all of the HD channels (in the 70's) with the $10 monthly HD Access.

With HD Access you'll get the current selection of HD Channels, but not Showtime HD or HBO HD (unless you subscribe to them separately). You'll also get Hi-Def locals if they are available in your area. A minimum package like the Family package is required, however.

You'll get 72 ESPN 2 HD, 73 ESPN HD, 74 Universal HD, 75 TNT HD, 76 Discovery HD Theater, 78 HDNet Movies, and 79 HDNet. HDNet Movies pay-per-view is on channel 99. If you subscribe to a regional sports network, you may also pick up an HD feed on channels 95.

Thanks. So no HD baseball from other regions than my own and occasionally HD hockey will be on those channels 95 etc. Versus was on there last night. Oh and no HD NBA on those channels as well.

I'm still trying to understand all of this HD channel stuff as well. I got mine installed about 2 weeks ago or so. For example last night, the Rockets game was on my local RSN in SD on FSN Houston on channel 639. The guide listed the Rockets in HD on ch 95, but it said I was not authorzied to get it (msg 721 or something). Was this blackout a mistake? Or was channel 95 the HD version from the Utah affiliate of FSN and that is the reason?

My question is how do you know when your Channel 95 is supposed to be authorized? The receivers should be smart enough so that if I tune to 639 and there is a HD version available, it should autotune to 95 or whatever channel it is.

It is confusing but my best guess is NBAtv was telecasting that game and would only be available in HD if you subsribed to NBAtv.

Just my guess. And yes those channels confuse me greatly, glad I am not the only one trying to figure it out.

One minor bit of confusion that probably should be pointed out. With the HD access fee you only get the HD channels that are included with your base package. There are some basic packages that do not get all the national HD channels. 74, 78, and 79 are not included in at least one of the foreign programming packages. There was a whole big long thread about some guy that was livid because he got the cheapest package he could muster and it didnt give him all the HD channels. If you can afford the freakin tv, whats the crying over the $5 or so? I just dont get the logic behind some of these decisions. I digress. Sorry

...and don't forget about those with HD equipment prior to the implementation of the HD access fee.

Those folks get the locals in HD, plus any premium channels they subscribe to in HD when available (HBO, etc.) and DON'T pay and HD fee, as it is grandfathered at $0.00.

The HD fee comes in only for the 70's HD channels (ESPN, etc.) as that was the previous HD package.
