My less-than-one-week-old HR20-700 showed a darn weird bug yesterday.

I'm a fairly new owner, so if this has been reported (I haven't seen it), consider this a "me too" post.

Sometime during the day yesterday, the functions of the various buttons on the remote randomly rearranged themselves!

Numerical buttons became menu navigation arrows, non-numeral buttons became numerals, etc.

I didn't "map out" every button but I did notice that "list" appeared to become "info", "Guide" appeared to become "yellow button". The numeral "2" appeared to be the only numeral that retained its actual numeral. Other numerals changed into other numerals or completely different functions.

Resetting the HR20 (via the red reset button) put everything right again.

My guess is that the HR20 keeps the map of what remote code maps to which function in RAM, and has some sort of memory leak that clobbered that RAM.

I must say, this happened during the day, when my wife was home and I was at work... and the WAF of this bug was EXTREMELY LOW!!

I quote: "Send this piece of s**t back and give me back my TiVo!!! I don't care about HD, I want to watch TV without this sort of Bull S**t."

My wife is going to demand we dump the HR20, which I really, really don't want to do!

If it comes to that, I'd probably dump DirecTV in favor of cable. Not a particularly palatable option either...

My views on WAF are documented in long ago posts but the short of it is::

If she has nothing todo in the kitchen durring the day and has time to watch tv, then she needs to get a job!

Fish Man,

this is the first I've read of this bug. I would be surprised to see you have it more than once.

I had something similar. My remote directional buttons and select button just stopped working. I originally though it was the batteries, so I replaced. Still had the problem. The menu and exit button were the only ones that worked. I have to check when I get home tonight. I didn't want to reboot because it was recording something.
