I have a Samsung DVR, with the standard Direct TV/TIVO subscription. If I terminate my Direct TV - move to Comcast cable - will I still be able to play back all the programs that I currently have stored on the DVR?

Yes. Just be sure to disconnect the DVR from your satellite & phone connections before cancelling your subscription.

I just swtched my 2 HR10s to HR20s and would like to watch the recordings that are left on the HR10s.
I disconnected them before deactivating them.
Would you please give me the step by step procedure for watching the old recordings? When I connect the unit to the TV and plug it in, it doesnt set up right...cant get by the "almost there" screen.
Should I connect a satellite line or phone line temporarily during setup?

You shouldn't have to worry about disconnecting anything prior to cancelling service in order to play back existing recordings. The DVR service only enables the various recording options and does not have anything to do with a DTivo's playback function. You don't even need a card inserted for playback, although you will probably get a nag screen to insert your card without one.
If you can't get past the "Almost there" screen then you've got other issues with your DTivo. The receiver hasn't even gotten around to check if you've got an access card inserted at that point. Chances are you've either got some corrupt software on the drive or your drive is on its way out.

Captain, thanks for the reply. I figured it out.
I knew there wasn't anything wrong with the drives because I had 2 machines doing the exact same thing.
After connecting the unit to the TV and plugging it in, I got the usual "Powering Up" screen which after s few minutes became the "Almost There" screen. Thats where I ran into trouble before. It when from "Almost There" to a "No Signal screen on the TV. No matter which button I pushed on the remote, nothing would change that.
Finally, I went to the front panel of the machine and pushed the "Format" button. The screen then switched to "Acquiring Satellite", the one with the little colored balls and percent aquired. From there all I had to do was push the Tivo button and then my playlist was there.

There's a bit simplier method. Just configure your STB to the "No Dish" option. I did that to my HR10-250 and it never tries to contact the satellite when it powers up. I still have access to all my OTA stations and all programs in my Play List. Of course, I've lost all my DVR (ie record, pause, rewind) functionality as well.
