Sweet Lou takes a powder in Seattle. the M's will allow him to manage closer to home provided they recive acceptable compensation.

I wonder if Pat Gillick will call on his old buddy Cito Gaston to take the helm....?

From today's Seattle P.I.

http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/baseball/91233_mari15.shtml

Dusty Baker, very successful in San Francisco but a free agent and at odds with Giants owner Peter Magowan, seems to be the consensus pick. But there are others out there, including Willie Randolph, Paul Molitor, Oakland bench coach Ken Macha, former Expos manager Felipe Alou and Baltimore bench coach Sam Perlozzo.

If Mariners players get a vote -- and they don't -- you'd hear lots of support for Seattle bench coach John McLaren.

Sad news for Mariner fans, but I think the M's are now good enough that they should be able to hire one of the better managers that are available.

Funny thing IS I had thought that was gonna be the case with Lou in Flushingn....So did Mike and the MadDog over on YES.....but it appears that Tamp Bay was the first to reach agreement with Seattle on a compensation pkg...which begs the question Does Lou REALLY know what he was talking about when he said he wanted to be closer to Tampa...I mean c'mon like Francessa said yesterday...There is NO WAY he wants to go there to loose 300 games in 3 yrs...LOL...and I agree....Close to home or not...I hope he will get back to his senses and hold out for the Mets.
